Salary : $62,500.00 Annually Location : Wheaton, IL Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 24-00066 Department: Division of Transportation Opening Date: 04/29/2024 Hours: Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m., overtime and on-call as needed, to include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays. POSITION SUMMARY We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic within the DuPage County Division of Transportation. DuPage County is an authorized training provider for Entry-Level CDL Drivers and are willing to train Heavy Equipment Mechanic employees to help obtain a CDL to meet the after hire requirement of the position. This position is included in the Bargaining Unit of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150. DuPage County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. RESPONSIBILITIES Responsibilities include: Diagnose, adjust, repair, and overhaul a wide variety of Diesel, Automotive, and Heavy equipment Repair and maintain light duty trucks, heavy duty trucks, snow and ice removal equipment, tractors, street sweepers, trailers, and other heavy construction equipment Diagnose, repair and overhaul diesel and gasoline engines, Air-brake systems, hydraulic systems, steering and suspension, electrical, and HVAC systems Diagnoses mechanical defects through performance of road tests on vehicles to locate operational problems and review of repair and maintenance work before returning equipment to service Operates diagnostic equipment for the detection of electrical system problems and defects Responds to emergency calls for repair of county vehicles and equipment Prepares service records of preventive maintenance, repair, and other activities as required Maintains current knowledge relative to vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair Performs welding and fabrication tasks Performs preventative maintenance tasks Maintains a clean and safe workshop REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience: --- Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) equivalent --- Two (2) years of experience in repairing trucks and heavy equipment or equivalent combination of experience and education --- Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois Driver's License --- Must be able to obtain a Class A or B CDL with an air brakes endorsement within six (6) months of employment This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements of the United States Department of Transportation - Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.A post offer physical is required. A pre-employment background check is required.
