Paralegal - New Jersey Family Law / Matrimonial We are a Divorce and Family law firm located in Northern New Jersey, helping to prevent legal and parental injustices against Men and Fathers; we want good Fathers and children to stay together and that no man gets left behind by the system or run over by their spouse. We are currently seeking an experienced family law paralegal to start ASAP. We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic self-starter who can prepare Case Information Statements, discovery demands and answers, subpoenas, draft motions, and client certifications, prepare trial binders and briefs, legal research, and someone who is skilled at communicating effectively with the court, opposing counsel, and clients with almost no guidance (although you will work closely with your supervising attorney). The candidate will take pride in getting the work done quickly and accurately; they don't need to be told what to do (or not to do), but at the same time is not afraid of making mistakes; someone who understands everyone has to room for improvement and is open to coaching without taking it personally. They also don't wait for the next job assignment- they already have their to-do list ready to go and are driven to move the cases forward for the benefit of the clients. If and when necessary, the candidate should be willing to travel to any in-person court appearances to assist the attorney with exhibits, witnesses, and technology. Speaking of which, the candidate should absolutely love technology and trying out different platforms to improve efficiency and truly subscribe to the work smarter, not harder philosophy! The candidate also understands that part of the role is providing a WOW! customer experience for our clients, and is not afraid of the telephone or any other means to provide constant communication and manage clients' expectations. Responsibilities:What will you be doing as our Paralegal? • You will be responsible for writing adjournment letters to the Court, coordinating schedules (external and internal), working with the client to prepare and file CIS's, propounding and answering discovery, and writing/finalizing court applications (including Motions, affidavits, client certifications, etc), drafting and facilitating service of subpoenas• You will be emailing a lot (you could have 30+ emails a day) and having constant internal communications through our firm platform• You will be on the phone about 60% of your day talking to clients, opposing counsel, courthouse staff, and other internal team members• You will be in charge of doing all this while navigating the myriad and emotions inherent in family law. You will be working with at least one, and likely 2 attorneys at a time• You will have to be a master juggler and someone who doesn't mind constant interruptions and who can switch gears quickly and efficiently and keep the pace with fast thinking co-workers! Qualifications:• You must be a team player. This is non-negotiable. We are strong believers in the team approach and our office is a team environment and we fierce protectors of it! OTHER REQUIREMENTS include the following:• 3+ years experience specifically in divorce and family law in New Jersey• Strong research and writing skills• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Outlook, and Excel• Ability to quickly learn and embrace additional software platforms (Case Management, Trello, etc)• Excellent organizational skills (relying on just sticky notes is not a good thing)• Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills (no spelling mistakes and you say what you mean and mean what you say!)• Strong personal and professional Integrity• Exceptional worth ethic and dedication (willing to put in extra effort even if you don't need to)• Ownership and able to take accountability for the role and the tasks in charge of• Experience managing and executing a full caseload• Providing above and beyond legal support to your assigned attorney as instructed• Positive disposition with a sprinkle of humor!
