Resident Associate - (3p-11p) Liberty House

POSITION SUMMARY: Resident Associates assist seniors who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and need 24–hour oversight. The Resident Associate's role is to assist residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help; fostering at all times residents' independence and freedom of choice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of assisted living. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess excellent customer service skills, be self-motivated, work independently, recognize facility needs, and be able to deal effectively with assisted living residents and family members, senior staff, and all Blue Skies departments and guests. Demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values, and wisdom of the residents, as well as an understanding of the aging process. Must be able to speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English, and plan and complete duties with minimal direction. Work collaboratively with peers and other team members, and use tactful, diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally-charged situations. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE : Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience working with seniors is desirable. EQUIPMENT AND COMPUTER OPERATIONS: Operates a variety of sophisticated office equipment such as computer, typewriter, copier, fax machine, calculator, postage meter, as well as simple equipment such as staplers, paper cutters, staple removers and hole-punchers. Training will be provided to familiarize incumbent with work-related equipment to ensure safety and proper operation during use.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: None. Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, AED and First Aid certifications. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Assists residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADL) to include: transferring, mobility, dressing and undressing (clothing should be clean and appropriate for the season), bathing, personal hygiene (shaving, dental hygiene, nail care, hair care, feet care), mobility devices (cane, walker, wheelchair, crutches, electric carts), and care of assistive devices such as eyeglasses, contact lenses, and hearing aids.2. Assists residents with Instrumental ADL to include: telephone use (calls, phone repairs, and hearing and vision adaptive devices), housekeeping (vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning bathroom, bed making, and bed changes, and laundry), escorting and coordinating internal transportation needs, and mail delivery and personal correspondence.3. Assists residents with self-administration of medications, including monitoring of medication supplies and documentation.4. Assists residents with minor self-care needs to include assistance with toileting, incontinence care, Foley catheter care and Ostomy care. 5. Observes and promptly reports changes in resident physical condition and cognitive or emotional status to the licensed nurse or Supervisor.6. Conducts resident rounds and room checks, monitors environmental safety hazards, and records incidents, errors, accidents, and resident-to-resident-related events.7. Assists in a variety of dining-related tasks to include escorting residents to dining room, setting up and cleaning tables, serving meals, and busing tables.8. Responsible for participating in and supporting the resident-centered activity program.9. Responds to and acts in accordance with established procedures in emergency or disaster situations.10. Follows up with appropriate staff, residents, or other individuals regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.11. Acts as ambassador and public relations representative for guests and other off-campus visitors.12. Maintains currency of all certifications required for employment.13. Orders and monitors appropriate use of resident care, office, and other needed supplies.14. Copies special paperwork or forms and prepares and maintains resident census records.15. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in–services, projects, and committees, as required.16. Assists with quality assurance programs and training new staff, when directed.17. Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor. DIRECT REPORTS: None. INTERNAL CONTROL: Within the scope of position duties, responsible for seeing that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures are complied with. This position will handle confidential information and must treat such with appropriate sensitivity. PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Work is generally performed indoors in a climate-controlled facility. Participation in occasional outdoor activities and off campus activities required. Must be able to lift, push, and carry up to 50 pounds and walk up to 4 miles per day. Must be able to stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, and kneel using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time. There is a risk of exposure to body fluids, infection, odors, and erratic resident behavior. Few environmental hazards are present, although the threat of communicable disease exists. Mild cleaning products, waxes, and soaps are used in the immediate area. Mild pesticides are used periodically to control bug infestation. WORK SCHEDULE: Work hours and days will vary depending on shift hired for and facility need to include evenings, weekends, and holidays. WORK LOCATION: Blue Skies of Texas Assisted Living Facility (Liberty House) ATTIRE/DRESS CODE: Uniform consists of khaki-type pants and polo shirt. Shirts must have sleeves and a collar. White or black athletic shoes with closed-toe, non-slip soles required. Employee ID badge or name tag must be worn at all times while on duty. See employee handbook for specific guidelines.
