The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year. The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens. Job Purpose Work involves operating equipment and performing manual labor supporting the Forestry crew maintenance of District trees and shrubs in order to provide safe and aesthetically pleasing areas for recreation and to promote natural area conservation. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs tree/shrub trimming and removal Perform preserve maintenance and nursery management (i.e.: brush chipping, stream clearing, turf restoration, various pruning activities, etc.) Operate small hand and power tools Provide general irrigation and upkeep of trees Installation of soil and compost Perform other duties as required Education and Experience Required Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment. Bring lunch and water daily for working in the field. Safety boots and safety glasses required. Reimbursement available for safety boots and prescription safety eye wear. Hours: April - September, Monday - Friday 6:45am-2:45pm Starting Pay: Starts at $16.00 an hour Preferred Experience: Arboricultural and maintenance operation experience Special training or other license, certification, etc.: Must have a valid Driver's License. Skills In: Identification of trees and shrubs; safe and proper operation and maintenance of a variety of equipment; performing manual labor tasks; understanding and following verbal or written instructions; maintaining effective working relationships.
