The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year. The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens. Job Purpose This position assists with the maintenance of the District's natural areas in concert with the restoration of forests, prairies, wetlands, and plant communities in order to support and uphold the District's Mission . Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform handling of herbicides and mechanical equipment in an effort to control exotic and invasive species Conduct native seed collection and processing Perform minor maintenance on mechanical and/or hand equipment Take direction/receive working guidance from Natural Resources' staff Keep neat and accurate records. Operate power tools and motor vehicles Perform other duties as required Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older by the first day of employment. Must wear long pants and long sleeve shirt, Recommend a mosquito headnet. Work boots are required. Safety glasses are required (provided by District). When working, will need to bring lunch and water for working out in the field. Starting Pay: $15.00-17.00 an hour Hours: April - September; 6:30am - 2:30pm (may include evenings and weekends on occasion). Education and Skills Required Preferred Experience: Familiarity with native plant and animal species of Illinois a plus. Special training or other license, certification, etc.: Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to obtain an Illinois Department of Agriculture Pesticide Operator's License within one month of employment. Skills In: Work independently, capable of hard physical labor including bending, digging, and kneeling for hours at a time. The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County is an EEO employer.
