General Summary : Responsible for leading HVAC design and coordination on assigned projects. Plans, organizes, directs, and coordinates the preparation and execution of Design/Build projects while meeting cost, quality, equipment utilization and safety objectives. Principal Accountabilities : Designs complete HVAC systems (ductwork, piping, controls, etc.) for design-build projects in accordance with local, state, and national codes, as well as recommended design practices, standards, and guidelines. Actively pursues and acquires new business through developing and maintaining strong client relationships, presentations to prospective clients, sound understanding of proposed project plans, specifications, and other contractual documents. Prepares project estimates, budgets, schedules, and assists in project contract negotiations. Monitors adherence to all the above through attendance at design and coordination meetings, job site meetings, project progress reports, performance evaluations, and working closely with field crew supervision. Attends meetings to coordinate design issues with customer and other disciplines. Responsible for plan submittals for city and state review. Performs engineering review of shop drawings for compliance with specification and design, tracking of submittal progress, distribution to all appropriate parties, including equipment vendors and tracks equipment shipping dates. Responsible for the design and oversight of drafting work for design/build projects. Provide assistance to project managers on design-assist projects as well as coordination efforts for typical construction sites. Manages administrative aspects of contracts during the design phase. Assists in purchasing equipment and other materials for design build project and assure the equipment meets the design criteria. Continuously look to improve on the administration of in-house design standards, specifications, quality program and business development. Ability to read, understand and interpret the Wisconsin Commercial Building Code and other applicable codes. Reviews and analyzes HVAC and related code changes. Disseminates these changes in the contracting and service departments. Participation in LEED projects including documentation for LEED on line, review of project ranking and credits, analysis required for mechanical systems, development of processes, plans and procedures, filed verification and construction activities. Maintains high level of competency in HVAC industry through continued education, training, conferences, seminars, and workshops. Participates in industry-related organizations like ASHRAE and Mechanical Contractors Association meetings and educational programs, as requested. Performs field surveys when necessary to determine actual field conditions to ensure designed system will fit the given building structure. Attendance at departmental meetings and social functions is required. Performs additional assignments as requested by management. May serve on company committees as requested. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required : Excellent leadership and communication skills required. The ability to lead the design process to meet the customer's needs while maintaining schedule, quality and cost. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 4-year degree. Professional engineering license or HVAC designer certification in the State of Wisconsin preferred. Minimum five years of experience in designing HVAC systems required. Experience designing and leading diverse project teams and projects. Knowledge of and experience with commissioning process for the total building; certification preferred. Analytical and problem solving, strong interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills. Experience with AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication, NAVIS works, REVIT, REVIT MEP or other applicable software. REVIT preferred. Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Must have excellent organizational and communication skills. Must be able to handle multi-tasking and set priorities. Must have the ability to work as part of a team. Good analytical and problem solving, verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to work effectively within team environment. Valid Drivers License Scope Data (budget accountability, operating revenues, organizational unit responsibility, number of employees supervised, other pertinent numeric data) : Accountable for a wide range of project budgets. Description of physical working environment : Works in normal office environment and makes frequent client visits requiring driving personal vehicle. When in the office, regularly works from a sitting position with a computer. Repetitive typing and computer use required. Regular bending, twisting, and light lifting is common. Works on field construction site in all kinds of weather to survey site conditions and resolve coordination issues with the trades. Ability to climb up and down ladders and steps on site is required.
