The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature. We offer to the public 60 forest preserves, 145 miles of trails, 47 miles of rivers and streams, and 6 nature and cultural centers. We have 6 million visitors each year. The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens. Job Purpose The Seasonal Ranger (Camps and Programs) position supports the District's camp and recreational programming operations to ensure a positive and safe experience for the public. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Interact with the participants, engage in activities, be a positive role model, and provide appropriate leadership to camp and program participants Oversee a safe participant drop off/pick up Provide District information to participants regarding the preserves, facility operations, recreational opportunities, rules and regulations Keep neat and accurate records including incident/injury reports, equipment damage reports, documentation of behavioral issues, time accounting, time sheets, etc. Take direction/working guidance from Ranger staff Lead or assist alongside Division staff with recreational programs including but not limited to archery, fishing, paddling, camps, and District Have it at Herrick programs. Repair and prepare recreational equipment and activities for camps and programs. Operate District vehicles Perform as first responder to emergency situations Perform other duties as required. Education and Experience Required Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire. Will need to bring own lunch for working in the field. Safety boots required, reimbursement available. Hours: May - September; Monday - Friday. 40 hours per week. Starting Pay: $15.00 an hour Related Experience: Previous camp leadership; experience with outdoor recreation activities Special training or other license, certification,etc.: CPR/AED/1st Aid; must have a valid Driver's License. Skills In: Ability to learn rapidly; Dealing effectively with the public; clear and concise communication, interpreting rules and regulations; keeping neat and accurate records; knowledge of District preserves, ordinances, policies, and safety procedures; time management; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; group management
