Principle Function: Operates equipment to do secondary operations on post sintered powder metal parts; perform tooling changes and equipment adjustments to attain features & characteristics within specification tolerance limits.Description of Duties and Work Performed: The following description reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the principle functions of the job and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent to the job. Accountabilities: Changes lathe cutting inserts to run current parts by releasing bolts, clamps, etc. to remove present insert. Remove excess chips from the inside of the lathe when necessary or at the end of each shift. Empty the chip pan as necessary or at the end of each shift. Operates lathes, mills, sizing presses, vibratory machines, furnaces, etc by starting equipment and observing equipment function as parts are processed, checking parts for proper dimensions, characteristics and equipment process settings. Maintains quality and dimensional characteristics by examining parts for inadequate processing, defects etc. The operator must perform dimensional measurements and record results of inspections on quality control charts. This may lead to the need to make necessary adjustments on process to maintain high quality levels. This position involves the need to perform miscellaneous duties such as moving containers of parts to and from the equipment, emptying smaller containers of parts to bulk containers, moving full trays of parts to conveyors or storage, and advancing conveyor belts. Other miscellaneous duties to be performed by the operator are deburring, reworking, sorting and packaging parts from other operations and production lines. General: This job involves changing inserts, making required machine adjustments, performing quality checks, and packaging. The job may involve operation of several pieces of equipment at the same time depending upon the part being run and the type of automatic loading and unloading equipment being used. The position requires knowledge of operating characteristics of various CNC machines, processing equipment, tool change procedures and techniques and the experience in maintaining settings to produce quality parts with very close tolerances. The job involves the use of measuring devices such as snap, plug and concentricity gages, scale, micrometers, weigh scale, hand truck, power forklift, carts and small hand tools. Associate is exposed to grease, dust, metal chips and shavings along with some heat in the area."Stop Line Authority".
