COMPANY OVERVIEW Daughters of Charity Ministries in Evansville, IN is seeking a full-time Cook. SUMMARY OF POSITION Prepares, seasons, and cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foods for Sisters at Seton Residence, Mater Dei Residence and as needed for special events. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Washes, peels, cuts and shreds vegetables and fruits to prepare them for use. Prepares soups, casseroles, and salads. Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipe. Observes and tests food being cooked by piercing with fork or tasting when necessary to determine that it is cooked and properly seasoned. Carves meats, portions food on serving plates, adds gravies, sauces, and garnishes to display attractive servings. Assists AM Cook with preparation of lunch or other meals as needed. Responsible for the preparation of the diet plates. Responsible for the preparation of foods requested for special activities within the Mater Dei Complex. Assists in delivery of meals to those unable to serve themselves. Removes the food from steam table and places remaining food in labeled, dated containers. Assists with washing and putting away of dishes. Cleans tables after every meal and resets for next meal including the filling of salt and pepper shakers, sugar containers, condiment bottles, etc. May be called upon to assist other personnel with special projects where extra man-power is needed. Plans and implements a personal development program utilizing internal and external resources to assure continuing professional growth. Adheres to strict safety practices and is constantly conscious of unsafe or potentially unsafe working conditions and makes every effort to correct or report hazards to the proper authority. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT Must be able to endure at least four to eight hours continuous work (depending upon assigned shift) requiring physical demands including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Graduation from high school or equivalent required. ServeSafe food handler certification is required. At least three months experience in hospital or institutional cooking is required. Must be able to endure at least eight hours continuous work requiring physical demands including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, and lifting. Must know how to operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment and appliances and be alert to hazards. Must know how to plan, organize, and measure ingredients to provide a well-balanced meal in a timely basis. All job duties are expected to be completed in accordance with the mission and values of the Daughters of Charity.
