SUMMARY: Assumes responsibility for assisting developmentally delayed residents in life relationships, activities, care and development mental training while they are living in a special residential care setting. Serves as advisor to the Residential Services Supervisor on matters related to the safety, security, and general welfare of residents. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The primary responsibility of the Resident Manager is to devote full attention to the care and development of each resident and to provide a family like environment. Supervises direct support professionals (DSP, RMA). Provides for the physical care and supervision of residents appropriate to their functioning level. Assists in providing opportunities for residents to be involved in integrated community activities. Provides and assists in transportation for residents to and from place of employment, personal appointments, and for recreational and other events. Encourages clients to make friends outside the facility, and to participate in community activities (such as church, social events, movies, etc.) Coordinates and assists, as necessary, with attendance at religious services. Encourages positive social interaction and interpersonal relationships. Accompanies residents and participates, as needed, in leisure time/ recreation activities. Encourages appropriate family involvement by: Assisting in arrangements for visitation, Arranging for residents to visit at home, Assisting in the communication process (i.e. letter writing, telephone calls). Assists clients in handling money and making and keeping appointments when indicated. Responsible for accounting for Resident Personal Needs Allowance (PNA) and maintaining receipts to be furnished to Fiscal Department Performs, as needed, minor housekeeping chores. Completes maintenance request forms as needed for home & vehicles and submits to RSS' in a timely manner. As the Medication Assistance Provider, the Resident Manager must ensure that all medications, including PRN medications, have written directions provided by the health care practitioner. The Resident Manager must ensure that a copy of the prescription or order is attached to each client's MAR, is legible, and displays the following information: Name of the medication Prescription number, if applicable Prescribed dosage Specific directions for use, including the medical basis for the medication, time intervals for administration, maximum number of doses, maximum number of days medication should be administered, and conditions under which the health care practitioner should be notified. All Scripts should be current and discontinued medications destroyed. Ensures the timely completion of all annual consents as required by the Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD.) This includes medical, financial, and authorizations for the release of information. Promptly and properly attends to residents during seizures and assists in dealing with problematic behavior issues. Provides for the immediate bathing and cleaning of any resident who voids upon or soils himself, also ensures that the resident has a proper change of clothing. Provides activity periods out of doors on a year round basis. Takes residents shopping and to medical appointments as needed. Ensures med/dental forms are completed and all follow up care is given. Notifies Supervisors and Nursing of any new developments. Assists residents in any aspect of grooming/hygiene if they are unable to perform these activities. Supervises and assists residents with training programs in health, hygiene and good grooming practices. (i.e. bathing, oral hygiene, dressing, hair care, nail care and shaving). Follows all formal and informal behavioral management or skill acquisition programs and where required documents necessary records. Ensures all staff working in the home are also following programs and recording data. Provides for and insures each resident's right to privacy and advises residents of their rights. Protect each resident's rights and freedoms, and maintains the confidentiality of personal information. Reports violations to Supervisors. Assists each resident in developing attitudes and behavior appropriate to community living. Participates in in-service training programs as provided. Conducts training for staff assigned to the home or requests training from supervisor or nursing. Coordinates the household routine ensuring that residents participate appropriately in homemaking activities and that they have a suitable schedule. Conducts monthly fire evacuation drills, disaster drills, and tornado drills with proper documentation of same. Completes documentation of the same. Conducts quarterly house meetings with staff. Maintains a safe environment and hazard free environment, and provides first aid as necessary. Avoids the exploitation of any resident. Maintains records as directed, also, coordinates/contacts RSS for back-up in cases of vacation, holidays or sickness. Supervises and ensures in routine household maintenance is completed. Alerts supervisor or Director if maintenance needs go unmet. Supervises and assists as necessary in preparation of meals. Ensures meals are prepared as planned by approved menu, substitutions are recorded on the back of the menu. Assists in the on-going assessment of resident progress and document concerns or unusual behavior on KTC "Unusual Incident Report" and verbally notifies Supervisor Assures that the provisions of the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) are complied with, particularly those related to a barrier free environment. Maintains resident activities schedule and allows residents to participate by choice and have a voice in the time activity is scheduled. Maintains and balances resident funds that is kept in the home. Ensures safe is locked but residents can have access to their funds as they request. Shops for groceries on a weekly basis or as needed and ensures adequate food and snacks are available to residents. Maintains emergency food for hurricane preparedness. In conjunction with the Residential Services Supervisor, prepares and maintains staff schedules to ensure appropriate staffing ratios. Ensures staffing is adequate as scheduled; will be available to complete a shift, if relief staff is unavailable. With the Residential Services Supervisor, reviews applications, observes potential employees on "observations" on homes, participates in interviewing process and assists with hiring process. Additionally, with the Residential Services Supervisor's assistance, completes performance evaluations; provides feedback, counseling and disciplinary action as needed; contacts Human Resources department for assistance as necessary. Performs other essential duties as requested or required. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises Resident Manager Assistants assigned to home, both permanent and relief staff; provides feedback and counseling; participates in all performance evaluations and disciplinary actions of staff under their direct supervision. Provides and documents training of staff; ensures that staff attend mandated trainings in order to ensure compliance with all regulatory agency requirements. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school graduate or equivalent certification required. Prefer at least one year of experience working with the mentally disadvantaged. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: *Valid Florida driver's license with a safe driver rating. OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to deal courteously, tactfully and efficiently with resident's families, staff members and the general public. Emotional stability and maturity with a genuine interest in working with residents. Capable of working a flexible schedule when necessary. Basic first aid training. CPR training/certification. Med Certified/Validated per APD Guidelines Managerial or supervisory competencies are helpful. Knowledge of life-safety and infection control protocols. Willingness to comply with in-service training or other mandates. T.A.C.T. Certification and/or training (at the discretion of the Residential Services Supervisor). Ability to follow directions, handle emergency situations and act in accordance with good judgment.
