Cayuga Health Nurse Residency program transitions new graduates into our nursing workforce. The residency program offers multiple layers of support, including: System-level classes Specialty-specific classes Orientation at the bedside with a team of preceptors Simulations Camaraderie and support from a cohort of other new graduates Hands-on training of clinical skills is front-loaded in the program to increase confidence at the bedside. Later classes include important transition topics like cultivating a health work culture, building resilience, addressing moral distress, educating patients and families, and growing your career at Cayuga Health. Nurse residency cohorts start on predetermined new graduate hire dates, typically in August for May graduates and February for December graduates. Nurses start the nurse residency program after being hired for specific nursing units. To be considered for the program, you will need to apply to the designated residency program you are interested in. If you would like to be considered for numerous departments, you will have an opportunity to express your units of interest in the program application. Department: 4North Medical, 4South Telemetry, or Surgical Short Stay Unit Schedule: 3 12-hour shifts, rotation between 6-8 weeks on day shift & 6-8 weeks on night shift, plus one 4-hour meeting per month for the CHS Nurse Residency Program Job Title: Graduate Nurse/Professional RN Reports To: Unit Manager Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct patient and family support and nursing care within their full scope of practice. This will include participation in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services for patients, families, and the community. The responsibilities will include the observation data collection, planning, implementation and evaluation of the patients' physical, psychological, emotional educational and spiritual needs as guided by an individualized and ongoing plan of care. The RN will work collaboratively as a member of the interdisciplinary team. Job Responsibilities: Assesses patients and families, whose needs range from uncomplicated to highly complex and quickly recognizes normal parameters, deviations and abnormalities in physical, emotional, developmental and behavioral status based on past clinical experience. Use a person-centered care approach in the development of care plans and in prioritizing nursing care to meet patient and family needs. Plans for care of patients, demonstrating the ability to effectively prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involves patients and families in establishing care goals. Demonstrates competence in the implementation of the technical skills required for the care of patients and families. Demonstrates initiative in remaining current on CMC policies, procedures and standards. Acts as a resource to peers. Interventions for the attainment of care goals reflect resourceful involvement of CMC health team members. Facilitates the linking of patients and families with other disciplines and services as needed. Evaluates effectiveness of care giving, and shows on going follow through in care delivery. Evaluation of care is reflective of the attainment of care goals. Demonstrates proficiency and compliance with established practices in clinical documentation. Demonstrates critical thinking skills by making appropriate clinical decisions, prioritizing both planned and unplanned events, and proactively addressing potential and actual problems. Demonstrates awareness of the value and relevance of research and evidence based practice in nursing. Practice can be identified as research based. Is self-directed in assuming responsibilities within the team and care delivery system. Assists peers and team members in acquiring department specific knowledge, skills and behaviors. Is recognized as a department resource for clinical practice and operational systems Assists others and provides leadership in implementing the standards of patient care. Requirements: Education: Graduate (only need top be anticipating graduation for consideration) of an accredited nursing program. Experience: N/A Licensure: Currently licensed in the State of New York as a Registered Professional Nurse. Certifications: Will obtain BLS during introductory period, *ACLS within 6 months hire (*preferred 4 North, *required 4 South) Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (e.g., Use of computer keyboard); may require lifting and carrying light loads (up to 40 lbs), including boxes, equipment, IV solutions and stooping and kneeling (e.g., to pick up items from the floor, to remove and replace items on lower shelves and to file documents in lower file drawers); sitting, walking, or standing for long periods of time may be necessary; must be able physically to operate the equipment used for the job.
