The greatest barrier to ending Veteran homelessness is the revolving door of unstable housing and the frustrating maze Veterans must navigate in order to get basic support. We believe that to be an effective program, the first step is to connect Veterans and the community. VCP created an innovative homeless housing program and outreach assistance that provides inclusive services to aid Veterans in re-claiming control over their lives. The Role The Major Gift Manager will be a seasoned Development professional, primarily responsible for growing philanthropic revenue for the national organization through the identification, cultivation and stewardship and upgrade of a portfolio of mid-level donors , creation of a special event attendee to annual donor conversion plan, retention , and elevation of current donors, and working closely with the executive and d evelopment team s to identify and build a pipeline of future major donors. The portfolio will have a special focus on individual donors although it will include foundations and corporate donors as well . The position involves overseeing various components of donor prospect research and prospect management tracking systems, donor stewardship, and communication. Additionally, the person in this role will actively contribute to fundraising initiatives, special events , and marketing efforts to engag e new and existing individuals nationally. This position requires flexibility, excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and a passion for VCP and its mission. The Major Gifts Manager is responsible for the overall success of the VCP’s annual giving from donors making gifts of $25,000 - $50 ,000. This is an in-person position. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   Manage a portfolio of prospects with the goal of raising major gifts. Solicit and close major gifts with strategic guidance and support from the National Fundraising Team. Acquire and upgrade donors, using a variety of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship techniques including making personal visits, and phone calls, sending appeals, events and gatherings, online campaigns, and networking. Determine readiness of donors to progress toward giving and deeper engagement with VCP.  Research and build donor lists, support growth of portfolios, and qualify major gift donor prospects with the capacity to make a significant gift to VCP based on their potential to contribute and their interest in the organization. Make portfolio recommendations for senior development leadership. In consultation with the National Fundraising Team, annually establish personal goals, objectives, and strategies for major gift fundraising, and regularly assess progress toward goals. Proactively reach out to qualify leads through cold calls and emails. Solicit individual prospective donors, when appropriate, and qualify major gift prospects to proactively cultivate additional future gifts. Professionally and clearly articulate VCP’s vision and funding priorities verbally and in writing to prospects and donors. Plan, coordinate, prepare materials, and participate in meetings to cultivate and solicit prospective donors; research new individual donors using appropriate cultivation activities. This includes proper documentation in the donor CRM. In partnership with the Donor Relations and Marketing Teams, e nsure proper stewardship and recognition of donors in portfoli o , t his includes taking steps to more personally steward and engage donors in your portfolio to achieve maximum donor loyalty and promote the VCP brand .  Contribute to the national fundraising strategy and budget preparation, including making revenue projections and goal setting . Foster relationships with other VCP departments and development team members in other cities to build a cooperative and effective program that promotes a culture of philanthropy.  Competencies and Areas of Expertise may Include:   Passion for the mission of VCP.  Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, non-profit management, or a related field or equivalent educational experience.  6- 10 years related development experience; or any combination of education, training and experience, that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Work experience preferably in non -profit environment.  Basic understanding of the principles of fundraising and current issues and trends in fundraising.  Exceptional interpersonal skills with emphasis on building relationships , asking for gifts and collaborating with colleagues to reach common goals .  Knowledge and ability to research, analyze and qualify individual prospects using technology and the tools provided within VCP . Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and deliver compelling arguments regarding the value proposition of VCP. Experience in donor-centric communication preferred. Knowledge of a non-profit donor CRM is required ( ie : Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce , Virtuous, etc.) . Advanced knowledge of technical computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and ability to utilize technology for research.  Capable of assessing own skills and abilities and identify ing areas for improvement; willingly accepts constructive feedback; seeks developmental opportunities ; works independently.   Flexibility is a key attribute for this position. VCP is a fast-paced environment. A willingness to take on additional duties, or change course, to ensure the success of the organization is essential.  Must have organizational skills and attention to detail. Can orchestrate multiple activities at once to accomplish a goal; uses resources effectively and efficiently; arranges information and files in a useful manner.  This job description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.
