Job Title: Structural Engineer 3 Department: Transmission Civil Design Work Location: Birmingham, AL - Alabama Power Company (A Southern Company), at The Energy Center, Birmingham, AL (Hybrid) Hybrid Work Schedule: Office time is required at the beginning to work with team members and get up to speed on what we do. After that, remote work is available. Estimated Duration: 3 years Job Description Structural Engineer 3 The Structural Engineer 3 in the Transmission Civil Design organization will be responsible for engineering, designing, and analyzing new and/or existing structures and foundations, including substation structures and foundations. The Structural Engineer 3 may also design transmission line foundations and/or provide design assistance to transmission line structures. Job Responsibilities: Drive structural engineering projects to meet schedule and budget requirements. Support specialized structural projects. Provide quality designs for projects, such as transmission substation and line projects, substation structures, substation and transmission line foundations. Provide work direction and oversight for designers and drafters. Serve as the civil structural representative on solution teams and prepare preliminary designs as required to support the process. Serve as a company representative on industry committees. Manage and work with structural designers and detailers to provide things like fabrication quality steel and concrete drawings. Desired Qualifications: Minimum 5 years of design experience of industrial structural engineering and/or commercial structural engineering. Proficient with design software like MathCAD and STAAD Pro. Working knowledge with ANSYS. Working knowledge of AISC, ASCE, ACI codes. Experience with analyzing steel connections. Professional Engineering registration is a plus, but not required. Design experience in utility transmission structures is a plus, but not required. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution strongly preferred; B.S. or higher in Civil Engineering or related field strongly preferred. Computer skills to be proficient with standard office software applications. Interpersonal skills sufficient to build working relationships with peers, internal customers and the general public. Time management skills sufficient to manage multiple projects with various priorities and competing deadlines. Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to satisfactorily complete project documentation and to function effectively in a team environment.
