About Our School Opened in 2022, Vertex Partnership Academies is a virtues-based, International Baccalaureate (IB) public charter high school located in the Soundview section of the Bronx. We seek to develop virtuous high school graduates who have acquired the habits, knowledge, and sense of personal agency necessary to lead self-determined, purposeful lives of American and global citizenship. Vertex Partnership Academies requires the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme for freshmen and sophomores and is proud to be an International Baccalaureate World School authorized to offer each of the Diploma and Careers Programmes in the junior and senior years. With this prestigious authorization, Vertex Partnership Academies is one of literally a handful of high schools worldwide that is an IB For All School offering three IB programs, meaning that 100% of Vertex students are required to pursue the IB Middle Years program in ninth and tenth grade, and then choose between the IB Diploma or IB Careers pathway for their 11th and 12th-grade years. Culture of Continuous Improvement Calendar Professional Development for 3 weeks before meeting students Instruction for students for 1 week in August before the fall session begins Student led family conferences three times a year (no instruction on these days) Professional Development and coaching Weekly professional development (focus on collaboration/ common planning time/reflection) Opportunities to receive specialized International Baccalaureate training and certification Responsibilities Contribute positively to the collaborative culture of the academic team and Vertex staff Construct learning experiences that challenge students, support the diversity of learners in each classroom and demonstrate a strong commitment to concept driven, inquiry-based teaching and learning Attend to high impact instructional practices (cognitive lift, appropriate demand of task, student centered discussions, clear formative assessment, and feedback) Build caring relationships and rapport with students and staff Participate in community-based projects and school field trips Ensure all assessments support ongoing learning and provide timely, relevant, and appropriate feedback to students Demonstrate effective classroom management Proactively communicate with families about student learning Supervise students’ individual Personal Projects and service requirements Lead an advisory group of students in a specified grade level Enthusiastically participate and contribute thoughtfully in Professional Development Qualifications Experience teaching reading/understanding challenging texts, supporting claims in argumentative essays, comparing/contrasting literature, and other key analytical skills A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Education or relevant subject Master’s degree preferred Teaching Certificate preferred (middle or high school) International Baccalaureate experience preferred A passion for working with adolescent learners, flexible attitude, and a sense of humor A passion for education and teaching Literature Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style A commitment to viewpoint diversity, open inquiry, and experiential-based pedagogy A willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and collaborative skills Competencies Self-motivated Creative and critical thinking Inspiring Reflective Seeks Feedback Safety Awareness This role is a full-time, in-person opportunity. As an employee, you are eligible for a benefits package, inclusive of paid time off, paid holidays and a retirement plan. The salary range for this position is $67,000-$108,000, which will be based on the candidate’s years of full-time lead teaching experience and credentials.
