Job Description and Duties Pending HRD ApprovalThis position supports CDPH's mission and strategic plan by serving as a highly skilled, independent technical consultant and project manager to the Chief Deputy Director of Operations, assisting with the development and standardization of business practices. The Staff Services Manager (SSM) I Specialist works collaboratively with the Chief Deputy Director of Operations, as well as the Director, the Assistant Director, the Assistant State Public Health Officer, the, the Chief Deputy Director of Health Quality and Emergency Response (Directorate), and other members of the Executive team/staff, and performs a broad range of complex administrative duties as assigned, which includes the coordination of large, departmentwide projects and contracts, budgeting, varied, and complex technical analytical assignments related to Operations. This position represents the Chief Deputy Director of Operations as a technical lead on various special projects with internal (Human Resources, Information Technology, Administration Divisions) and external stakeholders including the Department of Finance, the Center of Disease Control and Prevention, National Science Foundation, etc.The SSM I Specialist assists in the development and standardization of department business practices and logically and creatively utilizes analytical techniques to identify and recommend solutions to complex operational problems. The Special Assistant participates in technically complex, sensitive, and highly visible short-term and multi-year special projects and activities assigned by the Chief Deputy Director of Operations and Directorate. This position utilizes good judgement and strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with executive management and internal/external customers from Centers/Division/Offices (C/D/Os) to enable effective coordination between the Director's Office (DO) and C/D/Os and follow established procedures for updating changes identified by management.The incumbent works under the direction of the Operations Chief, Staff Services Manager II, Operations Support Section in the Director's Office.The attached duty statement indicates whether this position is eligible for telework.
