To quote a popular saying at TNC, "you'll join for the mission, and you'll stay for the people."WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHERThe Policy Advisor for Conservation Finance works with an interdisciplinary team to serve as a subject matter expert and advisor on complex and strategic issues. They liaise with TNC's global strategy and sustainable debt teams, science and field conservation staff, other Global Policy departments and with TNC's Operating Units to further conservation goals and strategies. As a member of the core team for TNC's Nature Bonds Program, the Policy Advisor will: a) support country-level staff on policy and government relations to ensure that they have the tools and resources needed to support the identification, preparation, negotiation and implementation of Nature Bond projects in target countries; b) provide government relations advice on the viability and feasibility of specific Nature Bonds projects as part of TNC's development and approval process for these projects; c) act as a deputy for the Senior Policy Advisor for Conservation Finance in strategy-wide discussions; d) support the Nature Bonds Global team and regional and country teams in the development of conservation and climate commitments; e) support the Nature Bonds Global team in the management and execution of government relations strategies in prospective debt conversion geographies including where TNC has no formal presence; f) connect national policy efforts to global processes and multilateral agreements and commitments and help to coordinate opportunities to provide international visibility; and g) in coordination with designated TNC Relationship Managers support the development and implementation of outreach and partnership strategies with international institutions and global and regional policy processes to accelerate the delivery of Nature Bonds projects.WE'RE LOOKING FOR YOUThe challenges facing our planet today require comprehensive solutions that address the well-being of people and nature and lay the foundation for future conservation efforts. The work and expertise of The Nature Conservancy's Policy and Public Funding programs are integral to this effort. The Policy and Public Funding business unit is helping to shape the government policies that help make possible achievement of transformative conservation outcomes to address climate change, enhance protection of lands, waters, and the ocean, and provide food and water sustainably. We have an awesome task at hand, and the work that you do here will have a direct impact on our success.We are tackling climate change, conserving lands, waters and oceans at unprecedented scale, providing food and water sustainably and helping make cities more sustainable. To implement these priorities, we collaborate actively in a non-confrontational manner with public sector agencies, NGOs, academia, business and the finance sector.WHAT YOU'LL BRING Bachelor's degree in political science, environmental policy, management or other relevant field and 5 years of government relations, international affairs or corporate sector experience, or equivalent combination education/experience. Fluency in English. Direct experience working with government partners and agencies, international organizations and processes. Experience in acting as a team player and collaborator working in multi-disciplinary groups; using influence and interpersonal skills, listening, diplomacy and tact to build strong relationships with governments, corporations, partners, donors, and all levels of staff and volunteers. Experience navigating matrixed teams and organizations; especially in relation to finding common ground between different viewpoints through candid discussion, open communication, and emotional intelligence. Experience and understanding of biodiversity, conservation and/or climate policy, at national, regional and/or international levels. Experience developing, directing and managing multiple projects and implementing strategic program goals; Proven communication and presentation skills. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $76,000 - $124,000 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate's qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
