ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Under the direction of the Vice President of Educational Services, plans education programming in accordance with agency policy and procedures. Provides overall leadership, supervision, and coordination to develop and maintain effective team delivery of services to students and families. Exhibits the drive to attain results; demonstrates proven experience and effectiveness in improving student achievement in the classroom and or school. Supervises designated support staff. Requires knowledge of trauma exposure, knowledge of the 5 S's of trauma: Safety, Self-Regulation/Soothing, Supportive, Strengths, Self-Care, and an understanding of and recognition of the signs of traumatic stress. Good verbal and writing skills as well as computer skills. Must be able to effectively use both verbal and physical intervention skills with individuals five (5) through twenty-one (21) years of age. Physical intervention skills require the ability to kneel and return to standing without assistance. Flexible schedule required. RESPONSIBILITIES Uphold agency policies and abide by rules and regulations found in the Educational Staff Handbook Applies knowledge of best practices in curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and methods of supporting and extending instruction and student learning. Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness. Encourages and supports the development of innovative instructional programs. Helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate. Promote the use of technology in teaching/leaning process Ability to interpret data Assist the principal in developing, maintaining, and using information systems to maintain, track progress on performance objectives and academic indicators. Interviews, employs, and makes recommendations for disciplinary action and termination of employees within area of responsibility Oversees maintenance of records according to agency practices and provides written reports as required Sets a positive example for employees, is a role model. Supports and trains employees on appropriate strategies using the 5 S's and therapeutic de-escalation skills Ensure employees attend required trainings including those related to being trauma informed-at least two every twelve months Mediate personnel conflicts with respect and dignity Understand the impact of secondary trauma and workplace stress and use strategies to prevent, minimize and/or help employees heal and recover. Ensure assessment tools used to inform practice and treatment include screens for trauma exposure Maintain fidelity of trauma focused interventions and treatment modalities Holds regular (at least bi-weekly), documented supervision of supervisees Completes all agency documentation on time Communicates regularly with staff internally and externally around treatment interventions to best assist working with LH students. This also includes taking part in staffings Participates in meetings as requested by the Vice President of Educational Services Actively involved in planning and delivery of training related to own area of expertise and needs of programs supervised Participates in the development and implementation of continuous quality improvement activities as assigned Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS Requires a Master's degree in education from an accredited college or university Requires State Administrator of Special Education Endorsement At least 3 years of experience in the field of Education with 2 years in a special education classroom At least 2 years of supervisory and administrative experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience The position requires a valid State of Illinois Special Education Teaching License (LBS1) Type 75 is required Knowledge of youth development and childhood trauma is recommended. Prior experience working in settings with youth and families is preferred.
