VP OF UNIVERSITY ADVANCEMENT Jackson State University (JSU), an HBCU and comprehensive urban research university, invites nominations and applications for the position of VP of University Advancement (VP). The Universitys next VP will offer innovative and dynamic leadership to advance JSUs legacy of success.The VP serves as the Chief Advancement Officer for the University and serves as a liaison to the JSU Development Foundation. The VP provides leadership, strategy, expertise, and enhances the development and operation of the Office of University Advancement to include advancement, annual fund, major gifts, planned giving, advancement and stewardship services, alumni relations, and other diversified activities that promote corporation, foundation, and individual endorsements for JSU. This position reports to the President and serves as a member of the Presidents cabinet. The VP provides leadership within the office and works effectively with administration, faculty, staff, alumni, students, and other internal and external contacts. Duties require high-caliber coordination of diversified programs to assure accomplishments of the complete goal or mission. The VP must possess the ability to communicate, obtain support, and work collaboratively with internal and external parties, including top government officials and/or business executives, in advocating for advancement of the University. Key Responsibilities Include: Meeting specific fundraising goals established each year thorough foundation grants, major individual donors, corporate donors, annual giving, alumni giving, capital campaigns, and other gifts, grants, or bequests. Establishing a strategic plan for development and fundraising. Preparing and carrying out a comprehensive long-range plan for various functional areas of development and fundraising. Working collaboratively with the President, university committees, and faculty to identify donor prospects among individuals, foundations, and corporations. Planning and executing events for maximum impact on development and external relations. Preparing development proposals and presenting development projects to various corporations, foundations, and individuals. Reviewing proposed policies and procedures; evaluating and serving in an advisory capacity to the University Officers and making recommendations for improvements in university Development Office programs. Required Qualifications: Bachelors degree. Seven (7) years experience with a successful fundraising track record. Experience in communications, media, and/or public relations. Experience in strategic planning, program planning, supervision, and financial management. Successful leadership of a diverse team. Jackson State University, a coeducational institution, is supported by the State of Mississippi. The University is supported by legislative appropriations supplemented by student fees and federal and private grants. The location of the University in the densely populated section of Central Mississippi is such that nearly one-half of the students come from within a 50-mile radius of the institution; however, the population includes students from every county in the state. A significant number of students also come from outside the state and from foreign countries. The campus is a scenic 245-acre tract situated one mile west of the main business district of the city and is easily accessible from area U.S. Highways and Interstates.
