Position Type: Full-time Job Classification: Non-Exempt Reports to: Director of Volunteer Services and Communications Salary: $60,000 The Organization: Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County (Habitat CFC) builds communities and improves lives by eliminating substandard housing and creating homeownership possibilities for families of low-income. Since 1985, Habitat CFC has dedicated 281 homes and has helped over 1,100 family members in Fairfield County. While we have completed projects and are working throughout Coastal Fairfield County, the largest portion of our current building efforts is happening in Bridgeport. We are a developer with a commitment to "green" construction, a family service agency, non-profit financial institution, community advocate, and provider of over 8,000 volunteer opportunities each year. Our ReStore, located in Stratford, CT accepts donations of furniture, appliances, and building materials, and then resells them. The proceeds from the ReStore help us build more affordable housing in Coastal Fairfield County. Summary of the Position: The Volunteer and Communications Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting the mission and operations of Habitat for Humanity of Coastal Fairfield County. This position is responsible for coordinating volunteer activities and managing communications initiatives to promote and enhance the organization's visibility and impact within the community. The Volunteer and Communications Coordinator works closely with staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure effective communication, engagement, and support for the affiliate's programs and initiatives. Responsibilities: Volunteer Coordination: Recruit, screen, and train volunteers to support Habitat for Humanity programs and events Coordinate volunteer schedules and assignments, ensuring proper staffing for construction projects, ReStore, events, and other activities via VolunteerHub Maintain accurate volunteer records and track volunteer hours for reporting purposes Foster positive relationships with volunteers, recognizing and appreciating their contributions Volunteer Engagement: Provide ongoing communication and support to volunteers, ensuring a positive volunteer experience Organize volunteer appreciation events, recognition programs, and volunteer training sessions Collaborate with other staff members to identify opportunities for volunteers to contribute their skills and expertise effectively Identify and implement strategies to attract and retain a diverse range of volunteers Communications and Outreach: Develop and implement communication strategies to increase community awareness and support for Habitat CFC's mission and programs Create compelling edited video and photo content at Habitat CFC build sites, ReStore, events and other assigned locations for various channels, including social media, website, newsletters, and press releases Manage social media platforms, engaging with followers, and sharing relevant updates and stories Cultivate relationships with local media outlets to secure coverage and promote Habitat for Humanity initiatives Support the development and distribution of marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, and event materials Ensure successful management of media assets in a well-organized storage system hosted on OneDrive and fulfill interdepartmental requests for content Assist in organizing and promoting fundraising events and community outreach activities Community Partnerships: Establish and maintain relationships with community organizations, businesses, and educational institutions to expand volunteer and partnership opportunities Collaborate with local stakeholders to develop and implement joint marketing and communication initiatives Represent the organization at community events, meetings, and conferences to promote Habitat for Humanity's mission and engage with potential volunteers and donors Other: Take on additional projects as assigned by the Director of Communications & Volunteer Services Qualifications/Skills: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Commitment to Habitat for Humanity's mission and programs with knowledge of affordable housing issues 2-3 years previous experience in volunteer coordination, communications, or community engagement roles Excellent written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills Proficient in social media management and content creation Strong organizational and project management abilities Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn), Constant Contact. Familiarity with Raiser's Edge and VolunteerHub a plus. Strong attention to detail and follow-through Ability to multi-task and perform well under deadlines Ability to work some nights and weekends to assist with communication and volunteer needs at fundraising and other events Normal work week is Tuesday-Saturday. Occasional Sunday or evening hours may be required for groups and affiliate activities. Knowledge of graphic design software (Photoshop and/or Canva), video editing software (Adobe Premiere) and website management (Wordpress) is desirable.
