University of St. Thomas Visiting Assistant Professor in International Studies The University of St. Thomas ( www.stthom.edu ), a private Catholic university located in Houston, Texas, the nation's fourth largest city, committed to the liberal arts and the religious and intellectual tradition of Catholic higher education, invites applications from outstanding candidates for a full-time position of Visiting Assistant Professor in International Studies concentrating on International Relations, Comparative Politics, and East Asia Studies (especially Taiwan) housed in the Department of International Studies & Modern Languages. The Department of International Studies & Modern Languages at the University of St. Thomas is a multidisciplinary program providing quality education to the next generation of global leaders. The Department consists of six full-time faculty and offers four major programs, including International Studies, International Development, Global Cybersecurity, and Spanish, along with East Asia Studies and Latin American Studies minors and its graduate program, Master in Diplomacy & Strategic Affairs. The primary responsibilities for this position include teaching courses (24 contact hours/year) in support of the Department of International Studies & Modern Languages and the Taiwan & East Asia Studies Program (TEASP). The ideal candidate would be able to teach various courses in International Relations, Comparative Politics, East Asia Studies, and Taiwan Studies. The ability to teach research methods and quantitative analysis is a plus. This position will conduct service work in support of the TEASP. This will include promoting student participation in East Asia classes and events, grant writing, event and conference planning, and generating research and publications to advance the visibility of the TEASP. This position is valid for one year and renewable upon performance and grant availability. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in political science or a related field by the time of appointment. Active contacts in East Asia and an outstanding record of teaching are highly preferred.
