The Charleston Veterinary Referral Center is hiring a full- time Veterinary Rehabilitation Assistant to join our outstanding team! About Us: Charleston Veterinary Referral Center (CVRC) is a is a 24-hour emergency referral center located in beautiful Charleston, SC. We are the ONLY VECCS Level 1 Certified Facility in South Carolina and 1 of 2 in the southeast region of the United States! We currently have a 16,000 square foot, state of the art facility with plans to grow in the new year! Our emergency center is staffed 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to always support our community! Specialty services offered at CVRC include cardiology, internal medicine, neurology & neurosurgery, medical oncology (radiation oncology coming soon!), rehabilitation, soft tissue & orthopedic surgery. Our hospital houses an MRT, CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and digital radiographs for diagnostic imaging. About the Role: The Rehab Veterinary Assistant is responsible for assisting the veterinary rehab technicians and other clinic staff with the daily operations of veterinary practice. They are an important part of CVRC to ensure the hospital runs smoothly and that patients receive the highest level of care and attention they need while in our care. This position is primarily animal husbandry care. Essential Responsibilities: · Learnings skills and knowledge for gentle and safe patient restraint for exams and performing therapeutic modalities (TENS, Shockwave therapy, Therapeutic Ultrasound, cryotherapy, etc.) · Attention to detail on patient behavior, movement and learning how to identify abnormalities (gait changes, posture changes, signs of pain, signs of fatigue, etc.) · Attention to detail for cleanliness and tidiness to maintain a safe space to work in- no trip hazards, room to navigate around, keeping patients separate from one another, proper cleaning between each patient visit. · Willingness to learn and participate in Team education · Patience and learned understanding with debilitated patients and ability to assist non-ambulatory patients. · Canine and feline restraint during exams, venipuncture, and other procedures. · Set up medical procedures and assist with those procedures · Walk and feed patients · Obtain baseline physical parameters such as temperature, pulse, and respiration · Disconnect and reconnect patients to IV fluids while maintaining sterility · Maintain cleanliness of patients and patient kennels · Assist in positioning patients for radiographs and CT scans · Provide comfort and TLC to patients · Learn how to assist in taking digital radiographs · Assist in CPR and patient code situations · Assist in euthanasia aftercare · Learn how to use and run laboratory equipment and prepare samples for use in chemistry analyzer, complete blood count machine, and coagulation machine, among others · Learn how to submit paperwork and samples to outside laboratories · Special training for assistants working in surgery will include training in instrument cleaning and sterilizing in addition to setting up surgical suites for procedures · Stocking of medical supplies in various areas of the hospital · Completing patient and surgical laundry and bowls dishes · General cleaning and organization of the hospital · Promote the core values of CVRC and Ethos. · Perform other related responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications: · Veterinary experience preferred, but not required. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. · Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. · Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. · Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. · Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate. · Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality. · Strong work ethic and positive attitude · Excellent communication skills with doctors, coworkers, and clients · Maintain a professional, positive, and encouraging attitude. Physical Demands: Must have the ability to respond quickly in urgent situations using all senses. During the normal workday, employee may occasionally lift and/or push/pull up to 50 pounds.
