HOMELESS ADVOCATE Department: Police Division: Police Administration Pay: GRADE 14 $50,397.21-$75,595.83 Annual Salary ($24.22-$36.34 Hourly Rate) Rate dependent on qualifications. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Temporary Full-Time, Eligible for Full Benefits GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE HOMELESS ADVOCATE This position provides direction, strategic planning, and oversight of the development and implementation of homeless services and ensures that goals across all areas are aligned with the city's goals to address homelessness issues. Receives general supervision from the Community Policing Sergeant. HOMELSS ADVOCATE ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Partner with police and fire personnel to visit locations where high-risk individuals frequent, such as abandoned buildings, camps, and other non-traditional service locations. Educate and assist community members about resources related to healthcare and housing needs. Facilitate those services when appropriate. Facilitate coordination between healthcare, behavioral health, and social service organizations to address social determinant issues. Develop actionable plans for sustainable continuum of care. Assist administration with grant activities to ensure compliance. Partner with service industries to bridge gaps in current systems and establish an integrated liaison approach that connects individuals directly to service providers in a personalized manner such as assisting with making appointments or completing applications for Medicaid, housing, and financial support. Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city. Work as member of a team to include frequent meetings with co-workers and supervisors. Interact with members of the public in person and via telephone or electronic communication. Utilize on-site equipment essential for job functions. Perform other related duties as required/assigned. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS A minimum of five years of experience direct homelessness services and/or education in a social-service-related field (e.g., social work, sociology, psychology, criminal justice). Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.
