The State and Local Tax (SALT) Specialist position at Bray focuses on overseeing and managing all aspects of state and local tax compliance, planning, and audit defense. The role requires deep knowledge of various tax laws and regulations, including income/franchise taxes, sales and use taxes, and property taxes. The Specialist will collaborate with internal departments and external advisors to ensure compliance and optimize Bray’s tax position. Additionally, the role emphasizes the use of technology to automate processes and improve efficiency. Responsibilities: 1. Tax Compliance: * Manage preparation and review of state and local tax returns across different tax types. * Ensure timely filing and payment of tax obligations. * Maintain and update tax compliance calendars. 1. Tax Planning and Strategy: * Develop strategies to minimize state and local tax liabilities. * Conduct research on tax issues and provide recommendations. * Monitor proposed tax legislation and regulations. 1. Audit and Controversy Management: * Lead state and local tax audits and negotiate settlements. * Prepare responses to tax authorities' inquiries. 1. Internal Collaboration: * Work with Finance, Legal, and Operations departments to align tax strategies. * Provide guidance on tax matters to internal stakeholders. 1. Automation and Process Improvement: * Identify automation opportunities in tax compliance. * Implement technological solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy. * Apply best practices in tax technology and process automation. 1. Documentation and Reporting: * Maintain comprehensive documentation of tax positions and transactions. * Present regular reports to senior management on tax matters. 1. Multi-State Tax Knowledge: * Ensure compliance with multi-state sales tax regulations. * Manage multi-state income tax returns and intercompany transactions. Qualifications: * Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred. * Experience: 5-7 years in state and local tax, preferably in public accounting or corporate tax. * Skills: Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills. * Technology: Proficiency in tax software, Microsoft Office, and experience with tax technology solutions. Skills & Competencies: * Tech-Savviness: Ability to leverage tax technology for automation. * Attention to Detail: Essential for accurate tax compliance and reporting. * Project Management: Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. * Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time management abilities. * Teamwork: Capable of collaborating effectively across departments. * Continuous Learning: Commitment to ongoing professional development. Work Environment: * Office Setting: Hybrid office-based with occasional travel for audits and meetings. * Hours: Standard work hours, with potential for additional hours during peak periods.
