Purpose: This position will assist the Small Ruminant State Specialist and the Extension Administrators. It will focus on Animal Science - Small Ruminants and will provide compelling and impactful research-based educational programming that meets the assessed needs of low-income limited resources small farmers and producers who are underserved and unserved. Essential Job Functions: Plan, design, implement, teach and evaluate innovative programming in the area of Animal Science Small Ruminant that demonstrates measurable impact. Solicit and secure extramural funding in the amount of $500-$5,000 during each evaluation period, to include gifts and donations; may include proposal writing. Engage and collaborate with communities' private entities, commercial organizations and local, county, state, and federal governments to deliver cutting-edge programming. Expected to interact with other extension staff in the area. Offer group workshops, field days, clinics, and one-on-one educational experiences to small farmers and producers utilizing research-based information. Desing and produce two engaging fact sheets related to subject matter written at an eighth-grade or below reading level during each evaluation period utilizing research-based information. Manage his/her program budget and the budget of any extramural funds he/she secures. Additional Duties and Responsibilities: May supervise volunteers, students, and program participants. May require working on weekends and evenings. May require traveling around the region and occasional travel around and outside of the state of Missouri. Other duties as assigned by State Specialists and Cooperative Extension Administrators. Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics Required Strong written and oral communication skills Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office - Excel, Word, and Outlook. Valid driver's license and access to motor vehicle in working conditions. Ability to work independently and living in one of the counties for this position. Ability to work as part of a larger team. Preferred Ability to read, speak, and understand Spanish. Demonstrated success securing extramural resources through donations, gifts, and grand funds. Demonstrated success conducting educational sessions via distance learning with social media. At least two (2) years of experience working with ethnically diverse audiences. Certifications, Licenses, Registrations Education Required: Bachelor's degree from accredited university in Animal Science or a closely related field. At least 2 years of experience in the area of animal science (preferably small ruminants) Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Ability to sit a minimum of 25 lbs. Ability to lift, carry and put away parcels, equipment and tools. Normal physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on a farm. Normal physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place. Normal physical strength to handle routine farm equipment and tolls. Normal endurance.
