Job Title: Group Exercise Instructor: Silver Sneakers FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Grade: 2 Reports to: Branch Executive Director Revision Date: May 2024 POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Silver Sneakers Instructor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for helping older adults improve their health and wellness through fun and engaging exercise classes. You will be responsible for planning, leading, and instructing Silver Sneakers classes, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all participants in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. Silver Sneakers classes are Monday through Friday at 10:00AM. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Leads energizing, fun, safe, and educational group classes, as directed by the supervisor, to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. Ensure participation, retention and enrollment growth. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends to provide effective information and support to members. Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA. Be friendly, alert and responsive to participants. Keeps accurate class attendance records. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. YMCA COMPETENCIES (Leader): Key Responsibilities: Plan and conduct Silver Sneakers exercise classes tailored to older adults. Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Provide modifications and alternatives for different fitness levels. Foster a supportive and inclusive community atmosphere. Maintain accurate records of class attendance and participant progress. Stay current with fitness trends and Silver Sneakers program guidelines. Collaborate with YMCA staff to promote and support other wellness programs. Mission Advancement : Accepts and demonstrates the Ys values. Demonstrates a desire to serve others and fulfill community needs. Recruits volunteers and builds effective, supportive working relationships with them. Supports fund-raising. Collaboration: Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions, and perceptions. Builds rapport and relates well to others. Seeks first to understand the other person's point of view, and remains calm in challenging situations. Listens for understanding and meaning; speaks and writes effectively. Takes initiative to assist in developing others. Operational Effectiveness : Makes sound judgments, and transfers learning from one situation to another. Embraces new approaches and discovers ideas to create a better member experience. Establishes goals, clarifies tasks, plans work and actively participates in meetings. Follows budgeting policies and procedures, and reports all financial irregularities immediately. Strives to meet or exceed goals and deliver a high-value experience for members. Personal Growth : Pursues self-development that enhances job performance. Demonstrates an openness to change, and seeks opportunities in the change process. Accurately assesses personal feelings, strengths and limitations and how they impact relationships. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology. QUALIFICATIONS: Successfully completes Child Abuse Prevention and Employee Sexual Harassment training as a requirement of employment. Required certifications: CPR with AED and First Aid within 60 days of employment. Must obtain Silver Sneakers Tivity Health instructor certification through this website instructor.tivityhealth.com. At least one year of experience teaching group wellness classes preferred. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to conduct classes and activities along with set up and tear down. Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position; including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting. This is not an exhaustive list of duties and responsibilities.
