Translational Medicine Mass Spectrometry Position: Senior/Principal Scientist in Translational Medicine - Clinical Proteomics We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love. The Translational Medicine function at Genentech has a vision to transform patient care through borderless, innovative, and rigorous translational science that will catalyze the development of new medicines, accelerate drug development timelines, and discover new therapeutic strategies. To fulfill our vision, we recruit talented and highly motivated scientists to develop and execute innovative biomarker and diagnostic strategies to drive clinical development through all phases of the portfolio and conduct foundational disease-oriented translational research to maximize our scientific and clinical impact. We are seeking a dedicated and independent Senior/Principal Scientist to lead lab-based translational research and discovery efforts in the clinical proteomics and mass spectrometry laboratory. The Opportunity: This is a hands-on, lab-based position that requires close collaboration with colleagues and departments across multiple functions in Genentech Research & Early Development (gRED). As an integral member of this dynamic team, you will: Design and execute mass spectrometry/clinical proteomics experiments to explore novel biomarker hypotheses and collaborate with other Translational Medicine Scientists and Biomarker Teams to interpret biological results to enable a fundamental understanding of disease biology Generate large clinical proteomics datasets to answer key questions important for drug development using the state-of-the-art instrumentation and analysis tools Drive innovation within the group through developing new approaches and bringing in novel instrumentation and streamline existing workflows using automation Collaborate with other mass spectrometry/clinical proteomics team members to deliver impactful results and train others on new methodologies Leverage internal and external partners (CROs) to increase internal bandwidth and impact across the portfolio Who You Are: You hold a PhD in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biotechnology and have successfully completed postdoctoral research in a related field, 6+ years of hands-on experience with liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) approaches Experienced in clinical proteomics and clinical sample processing with excellent troubleshooting capabilities with a deep understanding of the fundamentals in assay development, system suitability, and novel technology evaluation Experienced with discovery proteomics approaches (DIA-MS, TMT, SWATH, etc.) and corresponding data analysis tools, and knowledgeable in sample preparation techniques for analyzing biomarkers and other mediators from biological fluids (e.g., plasma, CSF, urine, stool, etc.). The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $120,700-$224,100. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
