The general salary range for the position is $116,000-$140,000. Salary offers will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, skills, training and education.The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation's most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking a Senior Principal Strategist, Regulatory Science for its Affiliate, Humane Society International (HSI). This position provides scientific leadership, support, and coordination of regional staff in the HSI Research & Toxicology program with regulatory science remits, as well as related external projects, with the aim ad accelerating a paradigm shift away from animal testing.This position will be responsible for:* Providing senior scientific oversight and coordination of all regulatory science work across the global HSI Research & Toxicology program with the goal of supporting policy efforts with accurate, timely, and persuasive scientific evidence. This includes maintaining a robust understanding of regional HSI policy and communications efforts and support needs and working with regulatory science staff and external partners to develop and implement proactive analyses, reports, publications, webinars, workshops, and other technical resources as needed to support HSI policy and communications, as well as to respond to external commenting opportunities and technical enquiries, in close collaboration with country and program leads;*Leading the scientific branch of the Animal-Free Safety Assessment (AFSA) Collaboration Chemicals workstream to coordinate the development and dissemination of scientific analyses and resources to support policy goals, providing strong project management, internal communication, satisfaction among workstream members, as well as recruitment of new AFSA members;*Overseeing and coordinating HSI R&T engagement with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), governmental advisory bodies, scientific conferences, societies, and expert groups. This includes making prioritization and budget recommendations to program leadership, coordinating or participating in R&T delegations, review or development of technical comments, and ensuring timely debriefs for relevant internal stakeholders;* Contributing to ongoing strategic and budget planning efforts for the R&T toxicology workstream, including advising on HSI positioning on emerging science/policy topics;* Serving as an HSI senior scientific spokesperson for media, conferences, workshops, webinars, expert committees, governmental and other events as needed;* Providing subject matter support to policy, advocacy, communications, fundraising, or other teams, as needed;* Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of global scientific and regulatory initiatives and developments relevant to animal-free safety assessment;* Other duties as assigned.Qualifications:* Doctoral degree in a relevant scientific field, required;* At least six (6) years of work experience in a relevant scientific field, required;* In-depth working knowledge of modern human-based predictive technologies such as micro physiological systems and computational systems biology, and concepts such as adverse outcome pathways, required;* Supervisory/people management experience, required;*Commitment to animal protection issues and the ability to professionally advocate for HSI science-policy positions;* Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of staff management practices and processes and the ability to establish accountabilities and expectations and manage performance to achieve results;* Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment with frequent deadlines; self-motivated and proactive;* Demonstrated critical thinking and analytical skills, as well as the ability to handle complex situations and demonstrate sound judgment and problem-solving;* Superior organizational and project management skills, including the ability to prioritize responsibilities and motivate staff and external partners meet deadlines;* Strong communications (oral and written) and interpersonal skills, including the ability to quickly absorb, analyze and communicate complex subject matter to a variety of audiences;* A high level of confidence, integrity, interpersonal skills, and a professional presence for effectively interacting with and influencing others, internal and external to the organization, as well as for facilitating meetings and conducting public speaking/presentations;* Proven ability to build/foster relationships with different cultures and diverse stakeholder groups, demonstrating high standards of tact, diplomacy, and discretion;* Ability to work both independently and as an effective team member in a team environment;* Technical proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Planner, etc.);* Willingness to travel, as needed.This is a remote position.When applying please submit your resume and cover letter as one document.Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identify, disability, marital or parental status, or protected veteran status.EOEPDN-9c461752-f1dc-425a-9d56-41b5cdf8d727
