About the job At Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP), our job is to engage with governments and policymakers around the world to explain Google and the innovative products and services we offer to billions of users; share our perspective on the different policy issues, and partner with them to find constructive solutions to challenges that our industry and society face today. US State and Local GAPP is within the GAPP organization, supporting a broad set of stakeholders both internal to the government affairs function and through the product and business area. Our team's mission is to represents Google's policy interest to and manage the political interactions with state and local government and public officials across all fifty states. In this role you will have the primary responsibility for handing all interactions with States Attorneys General ("AGs") and their staffs with regard to managing various public policy and product-related issues on behalf of the company. Your primary role will be to interact and cultivate the AGs, inform the business of impending proceedings or actions take by their offices and to advise the cross functional partners in policy, legal and other regions on strategy.Google takes its responsibilities seriously, including engaging with government and other stakeholders on important public policy challenges. The Government Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) team leads the company's engagement with executive branch officials, legislators, regulators and third-parties in the formation of public policy. Working closely with Google leaders, GAPP seeks to identify key policy issues, listen carefully to others' views and opinions, and distill and share the company's perspective on those issues with external stakeholders. While we focus on challenges affecting the internet, our issue areas are increasingly broad and encompass many areas where public policy, business, and technology intersect.The US base salary range for this full-time position is $221,000-$314,000 bonus equity benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Minimum qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience. 14 years of experience working on technology policy issues within state and local government. Preferred qualifications: Experience in government relations, political campaigns and litigation and investigations conducted by Attorneys General alone and in conjunction with federal agencies. Experience working with, for or in state government, leading policy work for third-party organizations and being a lobbyist or political operative. Familiarity with Internet/technology policy with demonstrated interest in keeping the Internet open and free. Ability to integrate public policy with legal, business strategy and corporate development. Strong public speaking skills with the ability to interpret legal requirements for policy makers, and policy for lawyers. Excellent leadership skills with the ability to collaborate with multiple teams simultaneously. Responsibilities Craft Google's positions on some of the most pressing and novel tech policy issues of our day. Work with elected officials, trade associations, industry partners, non-profit groups, and other third-party allies to promote and build support for Google's policy positions. Establish and implement strategies to communicate policy positions to key state and local government constituencies. Monitor current and forthcoming policy issues of importance to Google.
