WELCOME TO YOUR CENTER! Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 110 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County. As of 04/01/2023, The Center has relaxed its COVID-19 vaccination requirement for employment. New employees are encouraged but not required to be vaccinated. The Center reserves the right to amend this requirement based on health concerns and/or governmental recommendations to protect the well-being of our community. If this requirement changes, employees will have 30 days to comply. POSITION SUMMARY The San Diego LGBT Community Center is seeking an experienced senior grant writing professional with a documented record of success to expand institutional fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Senior Grant Writer will possess a deep commitment to the LGBTQ community and demonstrated ability to execute a multi-year, multi-million-dollar development plan focused on grants. This position will be responsible for securing large grants from corporations, foundations, and government agencies that support The Center's mission and work. PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Write the majority of The Center's large grant proposals. Develop a deep understanding of program content to ensure integrity and quality of proposal writing. Lead proposal generation process, including coordinating with key staff to produce and submit compelling high-quality proposals. Ensure that grant proposal and reporting deadlines are met. Work closely with the finance and contracts team to prepare budgets and other financial documents required for grant proposals and reports. Work closely with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to develop statistical data, maps, and other material to support grant proposals and reports. Submit drafts in a timely fashion to the COO for review. Establish and adhere to grant preparation and review timelines. Maintain electronic grant files. Ensure effective working relationships with grantor Program Officers. Research new grant opportunities and prepare research briefs. Keep updated on Center campaigns and needs through attendance at staff meetings and individual communications with key staff. Stay current with relevant statistics and best practices for service delivery. Utilize centralized grants calendar and database for applications, reports, and awards or denials. Required Qualifications: Education/Experience : At least 5 years of experience in grant writing with a demonstrated track record of success for government, private, and corporate funders in organizations with $3 million budgets or more. Related experience can be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis. Computer/Office Equipment Skills: Proficiency in working with computers and Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and OneDrive. Must have general database management skills. Professional Skills: Must have demonstrated attention to detail, organization, reliability, flexibility, and professionalism. Must be a highly skilled writer with the ability to write for government, foundation, and corporate audiences; must be a conceptual, strategic thinker. Other Skills: Must possess a strong professional work ethic and ability to meet deadlines; must work well in multicultural teams and with diverse constituencies. Must be self-motivated and highly organized with the ability to effectively work under pressure, use independent judgment, and produce a quality work product within tight time constraints. Must have the ability to identify funding opportunities for emerging programs. Passion for The Center's mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ people thrive and a commitment to follow all policies and procedures of the organization. Demonstrate competency, humility, and experience working with the LGBTQ and BIPOC communities, and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ and BIPOC people. Language Skills: Fluency in English is required. preferred QUALIFICATIONS: Professional Skills: Experience with financial and program management database systems including Raiser's Edge, Apricot, Instrumental, and similar systems. Other Skills: Familiarity with the San Diego funding landscape. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Compensation : The pay range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000 and is commensurate with experience. This is a Full-Time Regular Exempt position.
