Full job description The Sr. Director of Development and Fundraising (SDF) will oversee the fundraising teams, Mission Advancement, Planned Giving, Grants and Corporate Sponsors, and Digital and Design, to cultivate revenue streams and develop avenues for funding, setting monetary goals and budgets to meet or exceed short and long-term objectives to further PWNA’s mission. S/he will set and meet annual revenue goals through various giving channels strategizing on major fundraising campaigns and targeted initiatives, while leading a team of fundraising professionals. The SDF is responsible for developing and maintaining long-term philanthropic relationships with individual donors, corporate supporters and granting foundations by researching the current market and planning and coordinating strategic steps to reach the financial goals of PWNA. S/he will be held accountable for cycling those relationships inside a moves management system toward new sponsorships, grants, and individual philanthropic gifts to PWNA. As the Senior Director, you will work across the organization to oversee, manage, and refine PWNA’s fundraising and stewardship activities and systems. Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions · Develop a comprehensive, strategic plan to grow and expand the PWNA donor database. The plan should include donor acquisition, prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies to increase revenues in support of PWNA and its mission.· Work with the business operations, communications, and programs teams as a critical stakeholder in creating fresh, culturally respectful/relevant, organizationally supported cases for support and fundraising stories and appeals.· Directly supervise a team of development staff to include management, mentorship, guidance, and professional development to both direct and indirect reports; Lead team meetings to facilitate coordination of development activity across the organization and sharing of best practices and learnings while maintaining a consistent focus on goals.· Ensure a focused donor cultivation plan that is integrated across all fundraising channels, that appropriately segments and cultivates donors based on donor preferences, giving potential, giving history resulting in higher giving and greater donor retention.· Establish departmental benchmarks and evaluate progress against past-year performance and budget goals. Provides oversight of budget manager’s goals set during budgeting process in coordination with Finance. Works with business operations to monitor contributions by source against projections and provide the SVP/COO with trend analyses and recommendations.· Oversee administration of the CRM fundraising system, NetForum (NF) to coordinate with business operations to ensure that funds, including temporarily restricted funds, are properly recorded in NF and balance to accounting records at the end of each accounting period.· Work in partnership with Programs director(s) to sustain and expand PWNA’s in-kind revenue opportunities.· Possess the expertise and technological knowledgebase to oversee and improve upon the systems to transparently track, cultivate, and maintain all fundraising activities across the organization including knowledge of donor-imposed restrictions.· Provides support to the 1) PWNA Board Development Committee by working with the President/CEO and COO to engage Board members in supporting the financial development of the organization and 2) work with the Board of Directors to maximize their personal and professional fundraising contributions.· Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner.· Identify a grant tracking tool to prioritize and mange deadlines, opportunities, and reporting structure to ensure a uniform strategy for all PWNA grants; create a collaborative grant committee utilizing programs, operations, communications, and development teams to draft grant applications that support the mission.· Raises awareness of PWNA and its mission through outreach efforts, regular events, and donor engagement strategies such as workshops, donor visits, dinners, and receptions· Perform other duties as assigned. Experience/Position Requirements 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in non-profit development fund-raising. Expressed desire to learn and familiarize oneself with the issues of Indian Country and the philanthropic landscape of Native American issues. Historical, geographical, and awareness of trauma is not required, but should be learned, or demonstrate a willingness to learn contemporary issues in Indian Country. Verifiable track record of fundraising success required, preferably in the upgrading of donors to raise five, six and seven-figure gifts. Demonstrated ability to cultivate, expand, and support a diverse major donor base required. 10+ years of experience managing teams larger than 10 employees. Must be able to work minimum of one day in the office each week for collaboration with senior leadership. Highly effective communicator, able to craft clear, concise, and compelling written and verbal messages. Strong interpersonal skills with an aptitude for collaboration and coordination Proven strategy development, strategy implementation, and project management skills A strong leader with high emotional intelligence, with the ability to assert influence throughout the organization. Ability to integrate and articulate Native American strengths in the messaging to donors and public. A person who thrives on expanding networks and advocating for mission-driven programs. Strong technology skills and competent in the use of CRM Donor Database Management Software and have demonstrated experience and increasing responsibility in a development strategy or operations role. Strong project manager, capable of driving multiple work streams toward deadlines and juggling changing priorities. § Travel (25%) and public appearances required. Education Background Required Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related discipline.
