Position Description: Trinity Valley School seeks a full-time Mental Health Counselor to join the TVS faculty beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. The Counseling Department at Trinity Valley School: Trinity Valley School provides a robust School Counseling Program designed to support the school's mission and meet the standards for professional conduct by school counselors outlined in the NAIS Guidelines of Professional Practice for Behavioral Health Professionals Working in Independent Schools. In addition to providing individualized emotional and social services and collective programming for students, parents, and faculty, the counselors maintain a commitment to the overall mental health and academic well-being of each TVS student through student advocacy, crisis intervention, and referral as needed. Accordingly, the TVS counselors work closely with division administration, school nurses, faculty, and parents to effectively support each student.In keeping with the Trinity Valley mission, the TVS Counseling Program focuses on three areas of emphasis: mental health and wellness programs, responsive services, and academic support. The mental health programs offered at TVS ensure that students have the opportunity to learn and grow in the areas of mental health and wellness, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills, drug abuse prevention, personal growth and self-awareness, and personal safety. Additionally, through responsive services, the TVS counselors provide ongoing support for the psychological well-being (emotional, social, etc.) of students within the context of the school community. Finally, the TVS counselors work closely with the Academic Support Team to assist in the process of early identification of learning disabilities and other challenges that may impact academic success. The ideal candidate will: Hold a master's degree in counseling, social work, or other related fields . At least one or more of the following credentials is preferred: Certified School Counselor, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Master Social Worker. Have school counseling experience, preferably in middle and/or upper school. Have experience supporting the social and emotional side of implementing student accommodation plans. Be comfortable working with students, parents, and faculty with a high level of empathy and commitment to perspective-taking. Possess a working knowledge of neurodiversity and its implications for learning and wellbeing in a vigorous academic environment. Fully support the four main objectives of the TVS Mission Statement . Recognize, embrace, and advance institutional goals for Equity, Inclusion, and Community . Create and promote inclusive learning spaces in which all students feel safe, honored, appreciated, and respected for who they are. Nurture a deep feeling of community through actions and attitudes. Balance caring and flexibility while holding students to high expectations. Exemplify personal and professional integrity. Work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and seek continued growth as a life-long learner. Demonstrate proficiency navigating a counseling role through the unique norms and opportunities of an independent school setting. Responsibilities of the position include: Assisting and complementing the role of the faculty and staff by responding to the psychological, emotional, and social well-being of TVS students in accordance with the mission and philosophy of the school. Collaborating with the Assistant Head of School, Division Administration, Academic Support Team, College Counselors and Teachers to support students. Assisting students with concerns about academic workload, behavioral issues, peer relations, stress management, family issues and emotional and psychological challenges. Assisting families with outside mental health referrals. Leading mental health and social and emotional educational programs for parents, students and faculty as needed. Maintaining confidentiality of student information, including academic records, evaluations, and sensitive conversations. Maintaining communication with students, staff, administration, and parents. Mediating student conflict. Facilitating academic support for students whose needs stem primarily from mental-health related challenges. Please see full job description below
