On call as scheduledGENERAL SUMMARY: The Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Unit RN is responsible for the delivery of care to patients using the nursing process to access, plan, deliver care and evaluate the outcomes. - This RN assures a coordinated perioperative experience for patients before, during and after surgical/invasive procedures. - This RN is responsible for care related activities of support personnel. - The focus of patient care will encompass pre-procedure preparation, intra procedure patient monitoring and physician assistance, post procedure critical evaluation, anticipation and prevention of complications, effective pain management, and patient/family education. - This RN also maintains standards of professional nursing practice. The Pre/Post Anesthesia Care Unit RN who is competent in PASS (Pre-Assessment Surgical Services) is responsible for the delivery of care to patients using the nursing process to access, plan, deliver care and evaluate the outcomes. - This RN provides preoperative assessment and teaching either in person or via telephone. - This RN assures a coordinated perioperative experience for patients before, surgical/invasive procedures. - This RN is responsible for related activities of support personnel in conjunction with Perioperative Services management team. The focus of patient care will encompass pre-procedure preparation of the inpatient and outpatient, and patient/family education. - This RN also maintains standards of professional nursing practice. The Perioperative Services Float RN will become competent in two of the three areas of Perioperative Services: - Operating Room Circulating Nurse, Pre/Post Nurse, or Endoscopy Nurse. The main position will be the one located on the nurse's P5 and the nurse will only be scheduled call in the main position area (e.g. Perioperative Services Float - Pre/PACU will only be scheduled Pre/PACU call). The Periop Services Float RN will become completely oriented to their main position and will also learn basic skills of one of the other areas of Periop. The skill set of each additional area will follow the position specific contributions. All nurses of Periop Services will be competent in the basic skills of one other area within six (6) months of completion of the main area of orientation. QUALIFICATIONS: - Education/Skills Required: 1. Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing. 2. Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. 3. Meets requirements of physical/pre-placement screening. 4. Completion of CVPH critical care course or a passing grade on the challenge exam within six (6) months. 5. Minimum two years med/surg nursing experience required. - Critical Care experience preferred. 6. Must be able to take call as scheduled. 7. ACLS required - PALS within 12 months. 8. Requires excellent customer service and communication skills including voice control/tone, body language, manners, attitude, accuracy in listening with attention to detail. 9. Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to learn new skills. 10. Competent in IV therapy and venipuncture. 11. Ability to anticipate, prioritize, perform and complete multiple job responsibilities in a timely manner. 12. Previous experience in Periop Services will be considered first. As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided. -
