Always Bagels, Original Bagel, Dutch Maid and Hometown Foods USA, together, create a market leading producer of authentic New York style kettle-boiled, hearth-baked bagels and high quality cake products sold into the in-store bakery, club store, foodservice, and convenience store channels. The Quality Assurance Manager will Report to the Vice-President of Operations and follow the life cycle of the products from the original concept of development to the end of its shelf life at the customers by providing leadership, expertise, and continuous improvement to the Quality Assurance, Sanitation, and R&D systems. The position will engage and document the R&D process, and lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the factory Quality Management and sanitation systems. It will also assure that all products processed, packaged, stored, and distributed are manufactured in compliance with all Regulatory, Customer, and Always Bagels requirements. The position is leading the food quality, food safety, and food legality of Always bagels products. Location: Lebanon, PA Job responsibilities: Has governance responsibility to ensure compliance with food safety, regulatory, and internal standards and is authorized to take the appropriate action to ensure compliance with these standards. Responsible for ensuring customer/consumer safety/satisfaction. Makes timely decisions to support production up to 24hrs a day, 7 days/week. Demonstrate strong leadership of the R&D, food safety, and quality agenda at the plant, and serves as a change manager to drive improvements in programs, processes, and culture. Oversee all aspects of the R&D, food safety, and quality systems including the quality and Sanitation manuals. Establish programs, procedures, techniques, and systems to ensure product conformance to company and government specifications/standards and customer /consumer satisfaction. Participate in ongoing training to stay current with industry trends in Product development and Quality assurance programs. Implement robust quality management systems, including appropriate statistical process capability/control, food safety/sanitation/GMP/HACCP, structured team problem solving, and best-in-class laboratory practices and sensory techniques. Prepare sampling plans for ingredients, finished products, and other materials to gather samples, perform analyses, and take appropriate actions based on the test results. Conduct inspections and compliance audit in support of food safety and quality standards. Ensure sufficient quality/sanitation staffing and competence to execute the responsibilities of the quality/sanitation function. Ensure complete and accurate records and that the documentation is maintained, including formula integrity. Guide and facilitate the plant customer complaint investigation and resolution process and institutionalize corrective actions. Effectively administrate efforts regarding quality-related incidents or issues. Manage communications and develop action plans and contingency plans for escalated consumer, customer, supplier, or company incidents. Establish a quality culture along with the leadership team to ensure quality is proactively built in, engage all employees in quality & food safety strategies, and facilitate an audit-ready environment. Maintain labeling/nutrition information compliance of the plant for the US and Canadian markets according to applicable governmental regulations. Collect, read, compile, utilize and synthesize ideas and methods from existing literature, experts, files, trade events, and publications to provide recommendations for future new product development, cost savings initiatives, and process improvements. Manage the product research and development through the stage gate process until successful commercialization. Prepare analysis & reports concerning the results of the product research & development trials including the next steps and impact on key business initiatives. Ensure plant food safety and quality interests in the transition of products from R&D pilot initiatives to commercial manufacturing status (e.g. in-process control points). Supervise all associates directly assigned to the quality and sanitation departments and work closely with associates in the production, packaging, logistics, maintenance, Human Resource departments, and the Executives. Train new employees on the job according to the procedure and document the training progress. Coach and mentor employees into high-performing individuals to achieve excellence. Counsel and discipline the employees as needed following the handbook. When needed, document notable items of associates, both positive and negative, and place in personnel file. Perform yearly performance appraisals of the employees. Develops and implements an "open-door" policy, and is able to problem shoot, problem solve, and root-cause analysis with employees' concerns and questions. Record and discuss with employees any necessary disciplinary actions to maintain a high level of performance and attendance according to the plant handbook. Safety Responsibilities: Work in a safe and responsible manner at all times, following all safety policies, procedures, and rules; Report unsafe observations or conditions to a supervisor or manager; Immediately report an injury or accident to a supervisor or manager; SKILLS REQUIREMENTS Must be well organized, able to work on several projects at once and prioritize. Demonstrate a high level of communication, cooperation and to maintain and troubleshoot plant issues. Great working knowledge of FDA, State and USDA regulation or equivalent. Working knowledge of SQF and/or other GFSI Standards, HACCP, GMPs and Sanitation standards. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). Expert in writing detailed SOPs Expert in process control and process improvement. Ability to train and mentor direct reports. Proven ability to train teams. Fluent in Spanish EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS M.Sc. in food science or food safety with working knowledge. Minimum of 2 years of Quality system management. Minimum of 2 years of SQF or other GFSI standards implementation and certification. HACCP Certified. Certified SQF Auditor & Practitioner. Job Posted by ApplicantPro
