The Christman Company is looking for a Project Safety Manager in our Southeast Michigan region. The position will offer an opportunity to provide leadership and expertise in the field of safety to other Project Safety Managers and project teams. A s a valued team leader member of a construction project, this position will require mentoring and motivating employees and subcontractors to create a strong positive safety culture that exceeds compliance with federal/state safety regulations and specific owner requirements. What You Will Do: As a Project Safety Manager , your p rimary daily responsibilities of this role includ e , but are not limited to : Coordinate and lead the project safety program. Leads a team of multiple site safety managers. Leads and conducts meetings with the client, OCIP manager, and trade contractors. Coordinates the safety program with operations leadership for the project while working closely with the Project Manager and Project Superintendents. Communicate and build relationships with clients, trade contractors, and a project team. Leads external partner meetings with MIOSHA, union leadership, and other industry organizations to effectively establish a strong positive safety culture. Produce effective written communications to internal and external partners. Leads effective executive-level communications to internal partners. Provide safety leadership, teamwork, and expertise across operations to ensure consistent best practices and procedures. Coach construction teams on project-specific safety programs and leadership practices. Lead construction project teams in developing a strong, positive safety climate. Advise teams on developing subcontractor relationships through effective leadership approaches and responses to safety violations. Anticipate, identify, and evaluate pre-planned and actual working procedures to identify hazards. Audit, measure, and evaluate hazard controls and hazard control programs for compliance with project-specific safety programs and federal/state regulations. Prevent and investigate accidents. Organize and trend statistical information. Assist in corporate development projects to create and improve project safety process tools and technologies. Partner with corporate leadership to develop goals and initiatives that improve safety results company-wide. Pursue safety professional development. What You Will Bring to the Team: Required e xperience, knowledge, and skills for this role include: Bachelor of Science in Safety, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or relevant field Minimum of five (5) years experience as a lead Project Safety Manager with direct reports or five (5) years as a Corporate Safety Director. Minimum of 10 years of construction safety management experience (Commercial may be combined with Industrial construction experience). -or- Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience. Must have two (2) years of experience working with OCIP programs. Additional Eligibility Qualifications Communication : Strong communication skills, including excellent ability to identify safety hazards, understand project-specific safety requirements, participate in collaborative problem-solving, and enforce desired safety results. Work Planning : Ability to plan and prioritize individual contributions to achieve high-quality, timely results. Dependability and punctuality for all work-related commitments. Relationships : Ability to earn respect through the credibility of safety hazard recognition, knowledge of the safety standards, and positive approach to problem-solving. Ability to develop productive relationships within the project team, with trade contractors, and with the owner. Detail Orientation : Ability to detect and mitigate safety hazards throughout the construction site. Professionalism : Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor and appearance at all times and perform well under project constraints and deadlines. Computer Skills : Proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint). Math Skills : Solid numerical and analytical skills and ability to apply these skills to achieve accurate statistical information related to safety. Learning Orientation : Willing to pursue related educational and training opportunities for job performance improvement on an ongoing basis, and to openly share knowledge and debate concepts with appropriate members of the Christman team. Physical Abilities : Ability to walk, bend, and reach for extended periods, climb multiple flights of stairs and/or tall ladders, bend or stoop in confined spaces, and operate a motor vehicle and/or travel throughout the listed region. Work Environment and Physical Demands: The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons. Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
