POSITION SUMMARY: The Production Lead is a hands-on team member who is responsible for supporting the Shift Supervisor and Processing Team with evaluation and adjustments of the performance of the Optical Sort Machines. The Production Lead will check the overall performance of each color sorter and make the necessary adjustments to ensure the optimal performance of each unit. The Production Lead will also make adjustments of flow upstream of the color sorter to ensure all processes are optimized to achieve the overall goals of the department. Data will be manually entered into tablets, computers and or dry erase boards for the purpose of updating team members on the overall performance of the department. Provide recommendations to continuously improve area methods and processes. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Effectively provide shift pass downs verbally and by email, and other information to fellow employees, supervisors, and managers. Will act as back-up to the Shift Supervisor. Ensure updated program for color sort for incoming or rework product. Run several sort programs as needed for specified products to meet quality attributes. Conduct quality checks. Knowledge of pistachio products and by products, size, weight, color and/or condition. Responsible for blending of nuts to meet established requirements at colorsorters. Ensure proper operation of color sorting equipment by monitoring flow of materials and listening for machine malfunctions, such as jamming or spillage and notify supervisors if corrective actions fail. Review and evaluate data in X3. Enter daily data needed in excel reports. Maintain and ensure all safety standards, policies and practices are followed by Nichols Farms personnel and subcontractors. Ensure Food Safety Systems adhered to all processes. This includes proper cleaning and upkeep of equipment, tools, room including machines. Train fellow employees and observe and monitor work order or task. Follow procedures and plant programs such as GMPs, LOTO, Confined Space, and Fall Protection and may guide other team members in proper and safe use. Perform other duties as assigned. POSITION REQUIREMENTS: Experience in quality control processes and machine operations is preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus. Possess verbal and written communication skills. Manufacturing experience preferred. Computer knowledge is a plus or the ability to learn ERP and computer systems. X3 experience a plus. Ability to learn and become forklift certified. PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT Facility is a manufacturing environment, and this position may primarily be outdoors. The manufacturing environment and working outdoors may include high levels of noise. When working outdoors conditions can include extreme cold, heat, or humidity; and sometimes can include work in dusty conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as designated by the company. Position requires standing, sitting, and walking on a regular basis for prolonged periods. Near vison-ability to see details at close range. Ability to continuously use trunk strength-abdominal and lower back to support repeated bodily movement.
