Your Job We are seeking an Optimization Engineer who will join the mills Optimization of Process Performance (OPP) team to provide mill wide optimization support to the facility. The team's vision is; Innovate, Automate, Integrate and Sustain. The desired candidate must also be enthusiastic about mentoring and demonstrate economic thinking and critical thinking skills. Our Team The Brewton mill is located in south central Alabama about an hour from Mobile, AL, Pensacola, FL, and the beautiful beaches of the Gulf Coast. The team is made up of 450 employees who produce white top linerboard and solid bleached sulfate (SBS) paperboard. The SBS material is used to make GP's Dixie plates. White top linerboard is used in production of corrugated containers and displays. This position is an opportunity to be part of a rapidly expanding organization with tremendous growth potential. The most recent $160M capital investment is expected to be completed in late 2024. The Brewton mill was also the first fully integrated pulp and paper mill in the US to receive an Energy Star designation from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Learn more about our Brewton facility and employees here: We Are: Brewton What You Will Do * Must be able to work closely with mill personnel to identify opportunities to create value and solve problems * Support of process operations through both the application of entry level process control systems, optimization, data analytics and troubleshooting of the processes * Support of the maintenance and reliability teams in troubleshooting problems with the processes including process control and programmable logic control (PLC) systems. * Support of the project engineering group in defining, planning, and installing new process equipment and process control systems * Development of process or system modifications that result in improved safety (capacity to fail to a safe state), create value, and improved efficiency through automation and process trials and advancement of factory of the future technologies * Support of the mill safety program, both through personal conduct and performance of safety audits * Support of the mill data analytics applications (PI Vision, PARCview and PI data historian) * Communicate findings and develop proposals * Assemble reports to document process status, changes, and troubleshooting * Track metrics to ensure control systems are delivering expected results or to discover areas for improvement * Share department call responsibility Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) * Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline or Pulp and Paper * Process Engineering or Operations in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment * Ability to manage multiple tasks and focus on highest value creation What Will Put You Ahead * Application experience with process control systems; Honeywell TDC 3000 or Experion DCS experience * Experience in supporting operations preferably in Paper Manufacturing (Papermaking Experience) * Experience with Advanced Process Controls such as model adaptive predictive controls * Experience with Data Analytics tools - PARCview, PI Vision * Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) for use in analysis, communications, and presentations At Koch companies, we are entrepreneurs.
