Position Description KQED helps educators to create engaging, media-rich learning environments to support both content learning and media literacy skill development by promoting media making, student voice, civic engagement, creative expression, and inquiry-based learning using digital media. This part-time, limited term position (through December 2026) supports the implementation of the US Department of Education’s American History and Civics (AHC) grant through a combination of administrative support related to managing grant activities and deliverables, coupled with outreach and engagement with teachers and other stakeholders related to the grant. The full scope of the grant includes the creation of an inquiry-based curriculum bridging media making with an action civics approach to studying the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. This will be followed by piloting the curriculum nationwide and culminating with releasing the curriculum to a national audience of social studies teachers. We help students and teachers thrive in 21st-century classrooms, and take people of all ages on journeys of exploration- exposing them to new people, places and ideas. This role will work hybrid between working in KQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Salary Information: $68,237 - $85,296 Annually Essential Functions This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day project execution and project management of the grant’s multiple phases including coordination, implementation, and completion. This work will be done in partnership with the Managing Director and Senior Program Manager. This project will happen in phases from curriculum development, through piloting and public launch. The list of essential functions below represents the range of responsibility throughout the project, however, responsibilities will shift and evolve depending on the project phase. Duties include: Supporting the development of the Civic Advocacy through Youth Media curriculum, including the following activities: Keep planning and curriculum documents organized, up to date, and accessible by project stakeholders. Provide copy editing, formatting and layout support for public-facing documents. Transcribe/digitize notes and/or artifacts from planning sessions. Leading communications with teacher participants, including the following activities: Serve as point of contact and provide project and administrative support for teacher participants. Manage email, Slack, and/or other communication channels. Schedule meetings, communicate with invitees, and support facilitation. Create and distribute meeting agendas and take meeting notes. Recruit and coordinate pilot teachers. Supporting the collection and organization of data required for grant reporting, including survey responses, demographic and other classroom data, and digital artifacts such as recordings of participant interviews. Supporting internal communication about the project roadmap and scheduled activities to ensure other KQED stakeholders are ready and able to support grant activities as required. This includes activities such as scheduling internal meetings, distributing progress reports and/or managing internal Slack and email communications. Representing KQED at meetings, conferences or webinars related to grant implementation as required. Supporting development and execution of marketing strategies related to the public launch of the Civic Advocacy through Youth Media curriculum . Support could include activities such as creating marketing copy for social media or newsletters, and/or coordinating and marketing professional development events. Supporting the partnership team related to the AHC grant. Support includes promotion of grant activities and maintaining relationships with existing partners. Other duties and special projects as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience Project Management: Experience supporting complex, multi-phase projects. Strong organizational skills to keep project documents and communications organized, accessible, and up to date. Experience tracking expenses or working with project budgets is a plus, but not required. Communication and Outreach: Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly for drafting emails, agendas, reports, meeting facilitation and note taking. Experience engaging with and supporting project stakeholders who are external to the core project team. Experience supporting the development of public-facing documents, including copy editing and document formatting. Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Zoom, or other video conferencing software, to organize meetings. Event Coordination: Experience planning or coordinating meetings, workshops, or events, including managing logistics, and communications. Soft Skills and Qualities: Attention to Detail: Accuracy in managing documents, taking and transcribing notes, and organizing data. Collaboration and Teamwork: Ability to work closely with a range of stakeholders, including teachers, project managers, as well as cross-functional teams. Adaptability: Ability to comfortably shift focus and priorities as the project moves through different phases (development, piloting, public launch). Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot project-related issues and find solutions proactively. Desired Knowledge, Skills and Experience Data Collection and Reporting: Experience working with and organizing data, including creating data visualizations such as tables or graphs for reports, using tools such as Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel. Marketing and Outreach: Familiarity with marketing strategies and tools, such as social media platforms, newsletters, or public relations, especially in an educational context. Ability to use Canva, or similar software, to create graphics for various uses from program outreach to enhancing presentations. Experience creating or supporting marketing materials for public programs or events is a plus. Content Knowledge: Experience or demonstrated interest in media literacy and digital storytelling for educational purposes Familiarity with or a willingness to learn about media-making in a classroom context. Familiarity with U.S. civics content, particularly the Constitution and Bill of Rights, or a willingness to develop subject matter knowledge relevant to the Civic Advocacy through Youth Media curriculum.
