GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for providing professional mechanical engineering service andtechnical support to Maintenance and Operation departments for the re-design, modification, reengineering and retro-fitting of machinery and equipment to improve quality and productivity. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Analyzes and defines machinery and equipment to improve quality, productivity,repair damaged equipment, save money, improve safety, improve environmentalimpact, and increase production line up-time.2. Purchases new equipment, re-engineers and/or retro-fits machinery and equipmentthat needs upgrading, is damaged, is poorly designed or is incorrectly used in order toimprove quality and productivity, to repair damaged equipment, to save money and toimprove production line up-time.3. Defines and scopes projects, makes engineering drawings or layouts, createsequipment specifications, creates contracts, calculates ROI's, writes engineeringreports, makes cost estimates, obtains bids, makes recommendations to management,obtains approval to purchase necessary equipment and materials, and works withMaintenance and Operations Personnel to retro-fit and install.4. Communicates and coordinates with maintenance personnel to provide technicalexpertise and support on the full range of maintenance projects and programs toreduce maintenance costs, avoid costly downtime, and increase equipmentutilization.5. Provides coordination and administration for capital improvement projects (CIP's).6. Follows OSHA regulations as it applies to engineering design, constructions, andmaintenance and equipment installation to assure NAS compliance to safety andhealth requirements.7. Assists Operations and Maintenance with troubleshooting and repairs to pollutioncontrol equipment in order to meet EPA rules and regulations.8. Keeps abreast of new equipment and techniques by reading appropriate journals;associating with professional organizations, trade associations, colleagues, equipmentvendors, service companies, consultants, and government agencies; and attendingconferences, training courses, and continuing education courses as appropriate. RELATIONSHIPS 1. Reports to and is accountable to the CR Lead Mechanical MaintenanceEngineer/Supervisor and Maintenance Manager.2. Has freedom of contact throughout the company on Operations and MaintenanceEngineering activities, particularly with Engineering, Operations and MaintenancePersonnel.3. Externally, interfaces with equipment manufacturers and vendors concerningengineering data, performance specifications, on new installations and existingequipment. SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Other duties as assigned.2. Participation in continuous improvement programs. MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: Minimum of Technical Degree from approved University/College (BS/BA) PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:  Mobility in plant. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularlyrequired to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands to handle or feel,and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Visual ability with or without correction. Communication abilities. HEALTH AND SAFETY 1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.2. Follow Company safety rules.3. Report the absence of or defect in any protective equipment or clothing to the Supervisoror Manager immediately.4. Use or wear the equipment, protective devices or clothing that is required to be used orworn: Safety shoes Safety glasses Hearing protection5. Report to the Safety Coordinator, Group Lead or Supervisor any contravention of theOccupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or Company policy.6. Must follow all Lock out Tag out (LOTO) guidelines for designated machines.7. Maintain a clean and safe work area. WORK ENVIRONMENT: 1. Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
