JOB NAME: Machinist ALEVEL: Skilled PositionDEPARTMENT: Machine ShopDESCRIPTION:Set up and operate CNC, manual, semi-automatic or automatic machines individually orsimultaneously. Work to specified tolerances using accepted methods and practices. Performinspection and document results as required. Maintain tooling needs to minimize interruption.Occasionally make input suggestions and methods to increase production capabilities, workingclosely with manufacturing personnel. Perform minor preventative maintenance as required.Work in a team or as standalone operator. Perform other duties as required. Must show the skillsto perform efficiently with minimal nonconforming parts.COMPLEXITY AND JUDGMENT:Skill and judgment required in operating CNC and manual equipment and setting up/laying outwork. Calculating and setting machine offsets and checking parts for conformance. Adapt ormodify methods, CNC programs, or setups, after consulting supervisor as required. Maintain asafe and clean workstation. Complete tasks and functions in a timely effective manner.Demonstrate dependability and good judgement.EDUCATION:Able to read completed drawings, job layouts specifications. Use a variety of precision measuringinstruments. Use shop mathematics and work with decimal dimensions. Should have throughtraining in all basic machining operations. Must be thoroughly familiar with NC/CNC machineoperations on a variety of machines. Familiarity with cutting quality of various metals. High schoolor equivalent plus 2-3 years shop training.EXPERIENCE:Two to Three years manual and NC/CNC experience with at least six months NC/CNC experienceoperation. (Lathe, Boring mill, Machining center etc.)INITIATIVE:Work with little supervision individually or as a team. Communicate problems and solutions tomanufacturing personnel. Make decisions within limits of general procedures and practices.Seek out next assignment and moves to appropriate machine.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Works in standing position; operates single or multiple machines; at times requires frequent liftingand handling of medium castings. Chain hoists available for lifting heavy work. Some heavy lifting,push/pulling on occasion. Some work must be performed in an awkward position.Employees working in this position are required to frequently walk or hear. The employee isrequired to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands andarms, climb or balance, stoop kneel, crouch or crawl.The employee must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds. Specificvision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheralvision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.WORKING CONDITIONS:Some conditions are extremely noisy with exposure to dust, flying chips, heat, and some fumes.Some exposure to outside weather conditions.Working in the foundry environment is subject to temperatures of heat and cold depending onthe season.
