Flexibility, optimism, and a sense of humor. Context and Philosophy : Friends School of Baltimore has an opening for a part-time teacher to teach Reading and Math in second grade . This teacher will teach mathematics using the Singapore Math in Focus curriculum and Reading using the Wilson Fundations method and other established curriculum. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience using technology in their teaching, collaborating with colleagues, and who will incorporate multi-sensory teaching techniques and has an understanding of the developmental needs of our students. We seek candidates who bring innovation to the classroom, can engage students through varied teaching methodologies, and have regular and effective communication with parents. Candidates may be asked to share materials that demonstrate these qualities during the interview. Reading and Math will be taught by this teacher for approximately 10 hours per week. Candidates should be available to work Monday - Friday between 8:00-11:30 a.m. In addition to classroom duties, expectations include attendance at a team meeting. This position is for the 23-24 school year.   We need a teacher with experience and/or background with: differentiating instruction to meet the needs of a variety of learners strong classroom management skills (with a sense of "where" these children are, developmentally) direct teaching of reading skills, preferably with a reading background with a specific skills set (i.e. Wilson, Orton-Gillingham, Phonographics) to meet needs of children on any/all reading levels teaching of math using multi-sensory approaches, developmentally appropriate strategies and activities Responsibilities : Teach the core subject area(s) that honors the Quaker values and the Teaching and Learning Paradigm of Friends School Attend All-School Professional Days, team/department meetings Help move the initiatives of the School forward by serving on committees and lending their expertise and voice Write lesson plans in their absence Collaborate with teachers in their team/department, within the division, and cross-divisionally Ensuring the safety of their students at all times they are in their care Maintain a visually-attractive classroom and learning environment for the students, including maintaining bulletin boards in the classroom and hallways Support in the development of students' social skills Provide parents and administrators with written and oral reports that explain in detail how a child is progressing in the various areas of their educational experience To maintain a current understanding of best practices in the subject areas their teaches and have an understanding of the developmental needs of the age group of students in their care Qualifications : Bachelor's degree required; experience preferred Candidates with experience in independent, public, charter, or parochial schools and from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
