Please Note: To be considered for this vacancy you MUST establish eligibility by taking and passing a written, multiple-choice examination administered at an ILSOS Personnel Office in either Springfield or Chicago. Appointments for testing may be made by contacting the Personnel office at which you would like to test or walk-ins will be accepted at the following testing sessions: 9:00 AM, Monday – Friday or 1:00 PM, Mon/Wed/Fri or 1:30 PM, Tue & Thur. At the time of testing, a completed IL Secretary of State employment application MUST have been submitted. Application MUST be completed online. Overview : On an intermittent basis for a period not to exceed 1500 hours nor less than 800 hours pre twelve (12) month period, under general direction, performs responsible cashier duties involving the receipt of monies in connection with the processing of various vehicle title and registration applications; the validation of fees and applications and the issuance of license plates, stickers and ID cards to the general public, companies, dealers and remitters; verifies information received on applications for vehicle titles and/or registration; balances validation machine totals with total sales; takes daily inventory of stickers and plates, balancing with daily sales. Requires lifting and carrying of 0 – 50 lbs. Duties and Responsibilities: Determines proper classifications and fees validate applications for various types of transactions involving motor vehicles; issue license plates, stickers and ID cards to the general public, companies, dealers and remitters. Verifies information received on applications for vehicle titles and/or registration; checks for appropriate supporting documents; returns inaccurate or incomplete applications. Balances validation machine totals with total sales, insuring that checks and cash match totals on the validation machine. Takes daily inventory of stickers and plates, balancing with daily sales Performs other duties as required or assigned. Specific Skills: Requires extensive knowledge of office methods, practices and procedures. Requires working knowledge of inventory recordkeeping methods. Requires ability to operate a validation machine rapidly and accurately. Requires ability to operate in an independent manner. Requires ability to work under stress situations. Education and Work Experience: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years high school and one year of related experience of a clerical nature preferably including the operation of a validation machine.
