Job Description: We are seeking a Physical Therapist. This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center (PT Inpatient) in San Antonio, TX. Basic Functions: Perform a full range of physical therapist services in accordance with the scope of clinical privileges granted by the Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). Plan and prepare written treatment programs based on an evaluation of the patient. Administer manual exercises to improve and maintain function. Instruct, motivate, and assist patients in performing various physical activities, such as non- manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, daily-living activities, and in use of assistive and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, and prostheses. Administer soft tissue mobilization, applying knowledge of mobilization techniques and body physiology. Administer traction to relieve pain, using traction equipment. Record treatment, response, and progress in patient's chart and/or automated systems. Coordinate treatment with physician and other staff members to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of the patient's health care. Contact referring physicians regarding patient care concerns, as required. Perform prevention and wellness activities, education, screening, and promote positive health behaviors. Provide required service within the rules and regulations of the Texas State board of Physical Therapy. Physical Therapy Assistants on duty at the Inpatient Physical Therapy Section may be required to work on a federally recognized holiday depending on their scheduled shift hours within their 40 hour per work week. Responsibilities: Physical Therapists will be assigned to the Inpatient Physical Therapy section and are considered mission essential in order to continue and sustain essential clinical operations during base and facility unplanned closures. Plan and administers physical therapy to general medical and surgical patients with single and multiple disabilities such as fractures, sprains, hemiplegia, peripheral nerve injuries, and surgical reconstruction. Directly participates in all patient treatment and directly oversees any treatment applied by subordinate personnel, if assigned. Executes a full range of treatment procedures using manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, gait training, manual muscle testing, and sparing application of modalities such as heat, ultrasound, and electrical stimulation. Evaluates and documents each patient's response to treatment on an ongoing basis. Tracks treatment as appropriate and executes ongoing discharge planning. Revises treatment plans when patients fail to respond or show adverse reactions to treatment. Makes timely and appropriate referrals to other Providers when medically indicated. Primary neuro musculoskeletal care includes the exercise professional judgment in the evaluation, treatment and referral of patients with musculoskeletal complaints. The physical therapist performing primary evaluations is a provider of primary care. Primary care practice requires knowledge of differential diagnose history taking, the carrying out of complex examinations procedures, the correlation of test results and measurements, and the prescribing of treatment. The parameters of practice include: Issuing profiles, placing personnel on quarters (e.g., bed rest), referring patients to other specialty clinics. When utilizing supports staff a written plan of care must be furnished to the support staff describing all treatment tasks to the appropriate clinic personnel. Maintains proper medical records on all patients treated under this contract in accordance with AR 40-66. A copy of the regulation will be provided by the COR, the contract Physical Therapist will prepare any additional records or description of care if and when required, on behalf of the MTF, the medical Command, The Military health System, the Department of the Army, and the Department of Defense. Exercise professional judgment in administering treatment to the spectrum of physical therapy patients with neurological, general medical, post-surgical and orthopedic disorders. Design treatment plans to be implemented personally by the therapist or by civilian physical therapy assistants (PTAs) or military physical therapy technicians. Directly oversees the plan of care conducted by subordinate personnel, if assigned. Take full responsibility for patient provided in assigned area regardless of whether they are personally providing the care or have utilized subordinate staff members. Provide professional guidance, counseling and evaluation and assist in directing activities and training of any assigned student. Interacts effectively with patients and healthcare professionals to maintain a high quality standard of healthcare. Performs all duties with minimal supervision or guidance. Physical Therapist shall consult with the section chief for their assigned area and the Chief, Physical Therapy, at the MTF when patient issues cannot be resolved at the section level. Performs as a clinical instructor, when requested, in full compliance with the guidelines established by the Texas chapter of the American Physical Therapy association for the mastery and assessment of clinical skills or according to other guidelines established by physical therapy school of the affiliating student. Perform through patient examinations appropriate for the condition for which the patient has sought physical therapy care or the purpose of provider referral. Examinations will encompass the full spectrum of physical therapist examination skills to adequately diagnose the cause of the patient's complaint. Other duties and tasks as assigned Minimum Qualifications: Master's Degree in physical therapy or Baccalaureate degree in physical therapy for graduates prior to January 1, 2002. Graduate of a college or university approved by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license from any U.S. jurisdiction to practice as a physical therapist. The license must be renewed and maintained in a current status during the length of employment with HGS. Physical Therapist shall have received Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) required training for the position in which they will perform and that training currency is maintained by the employee. Experience: a minimum of (2) years' experience providing direct patient care in physical therapy in the United States. Current documentation of required physical testing or a report of a physical examination. Recent Tuberculosis Screening for risk of exposure to tuberculosis results (within last calendar year). Additional immunization/screening requirements for the risk of exposure to tuberculosis (TB) are as follows: Prior to full employment the successful candidate shall be screened for the risk of exposure to tuberculosis (TB) as part of the health examination and immunization/screening requirement. If the candidate is determined to have a low risk of exposure, no further screening or testing is required prior to employment. The initial screening may be waived, if the candidate provides evidence of a prior low risk assessment by a licensed physician. If the initial screening results in a determination that the employee receives targeted screening and testing IAW CDC Guidelines for Healthcare Settings, the employee will be responsible for the expense of this testing and will be required to submit timely records of subsequent screening or testing to HGS. Preferred Qualifications/Experience: Experience and proficiency in orthopedic physical therapy, sport physical therapy and/or acute inpatient physical therapy are preferred. American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) certification or specialization in orthopedic, sport and manual therapy is encouraged. Competency in typing/keyboarding and experience using computers especially Microsoft programs. (The MTF will provide computer training for the MTF specific computer system.)
