In-House Substitute Teacher 2024-2025 The San Francisco Friends School (SFFS), located in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco, educates K-8 students in the tradition of Quaker learning. SFFS seeks an In-House Substitute Teacher to teach and/or support various classes at all grade levels (K-8) when lead teachers or Associate Teachers are absent. This role is a key player in helping maintain safe, consistent, and productive learning experiences and environments at SFFS. The ideal candidate is a responsible, flexible, child-friendly person with relevant classroom teaching experience, who wants to both contribute and learn, and be part of a thriving team and inspiring community. Additional responsibilities may be considered based on individual interests and experience. Overview of Responsibilities This role reports to the Director of Community Engagement, and responsibilities will include the following: Leading and supporting in-person instruction across various grades, as needed. Substitutes for grade level leads, Associate Teachers, and lead specialists in K-8 Carry out a culturally responsive curriculum that celebrates the unique backgrounds of our diverse student body Execute the teacher’s lesson plans and report back to the teacher any concerns or issues from the day Foster positive relationships with parents, students, and school staff on a daily basis Maintain a safe, productive learning environment for the students in the classroom and on the playground Collaborate with and support the grade level or departmental team Social-emotional learning support for students across a variety of ages and grades Assist with various duties and provide support for teachers and students as needed; this may include supporting our after school director and program Accompanying students and attending some specialist classes and/or off-campus field trips, as needed Facilitating and monitoring safety and security routines, policies and procedures, as needed Other duties as assigned Work the hours of 8:00 am until 4:00 pm; additional overtime duties may be offered, as needed Qualifications and Experience Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, child development, or related professional coursework/certification indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position Experience working passionately and joyfully with K-8 students in a multicultural school setting or summer program (specific desired experiences include: playing games, crafting, outdoor education, coaching youth sports) Excellent reading, writing, and verbal communication in English and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to take initiative, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with diverse constituencies Possess strong judgment, discretion, resourcefulness, proactiveness, and problem-solving skills Proven leadership abilities Willingness to be a team player and be flexible Organizational skill and the ability to multitask Knowledge of the essential role social-emotional literacy plays in the workplace and interest in its application in the educational setting Knowledge of identity-safe anti-bias educational practices Background check, fingerprint clearance, current TB skin test or TB clearance, and proof of COVID vaccination The ideal candidate is a responsible, flexible, child-friendly person with relevant classroom teaching experience who wants to both contribute and learn. Physical requirements Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Pay Range: This is a full-time, academic-year, non-exempt position that comes with health and dental benefits. Hourly rate is $30 to $32/hour (rate is based on relevant experience).
