Concordia is a Lutheran higher education community committed to helping students develop in mind, body, and spirit for service to Christ in the Church and in the world Position Summary Concordia University is hiring a general maintenance position that reports to the Director of Buildings and Grounds. It is located on the Ann Arbor Michigan campus and is a full time, nonexempt position working Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week, 7am - 3:30 pm. Or as needed for special occasions. Responsibilities include the maintenance, minor repair, and up-keep of campus grounds and equipment including but not limited to refuse collection, weed control, turf maintenance, shrub pruning, athletic field prep and snow removal; may serve as emergency personnel. Compensation and Benefits This is a full-time, non-exempt (hourly) position. The starting wage is dependent upon individual qualifications and experience. Performs annual and perennial display bed maintenance, including manual irrigation, pruning, weeding, and mulch and fertilizer applications. Performs turf maintenance, including mowing, trimming, and edging. Performs storeroom and delivery work; may serve as a member of the emergency essential personnel staff in the Facilities Services division and be required to report to work during a closing to assist in carrying out the services of the University. Informs Director of Buildings and Grounds of potential maintenance and equipment needs Ability to work with a diverse group of student workers May Perform other duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Ability to plan, organize, control, and direct all aspects of required corrective and preventative maintenance for campus grounds Knowledge of ground related equipment and procedures Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of operating grounds equipment Ability to understand and follow written and oral directions Skilled in effective oral and written communication skills Must be willing to seek training to enhance or learn new skills. Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing missions of the University Ability to lift a minimum of 75 pounds Education & Experience High school diploma or its equivalent required. Hold an updated pesticide license or ability to acquire. Three (3) years of grounds related experience is required A valid driver's license is required with the ability to obtain chauffeur's driver's license within the State of Michigan Physical Demands & Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
