Job Summary: R.O.O.T.S. represents Resilient ~ Optimistic ~ Open-Minded ~ Thriving ~ Serene and serves adolescents and young adults between 12 to 24 years old who have been diagnosed with substance misuse disorder and/or mental health disorder(s) or who are at risk for mental health disorder and/or substance misuse. The Green Care Clinician (GCC) provides intervention and treatment services to participants in a unique setting to enhance their wellbeing through interactions with animals and the natural world. The Green Care Clinician will use Green Care or Care Farming modalities with evidenced-based clinical practices in a non-traditional therapeutic setting at Evergreen Grove- a livestock rescue and therapeutic farm in Gardner MA, also the home of Carl E. Dahl House, a Co-Occurring Enhanced Recovery Home for men. Green Care modalities can include (but are not limited to) building human-animal relationships, nature-based activities, care farming, ecotherapy, and wilderness therapy to enhance the therapeutic process. Responsibilities and Duties: Clinical/Program The GCC is responsible for the coordination and implementation of service elements to program participants including intake, orientation, assessments, treatment planning, counseling, case management, crisis intervention, client education, referral, report and record keeping and consultation with other professionals. Maintain accurate records and clinical documentation for clients in compliance with Department of Public Health, Bureau of Substance Addiction Services, and agency rules and regulations. Participate in regular staff meetings, multidisciplinary team meetings, and other meetings as required. Adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and agency policies governing the disclosure of client identifying data and confidentiality. Represent GAAMHA/ROOTS at Evergreen Grove in a manner that reflects the values and professional standards of the organization. Perform other duties as assigned. Animal – Assisted Services Prioritize animal welfare by ensuring the animal(s) choose and thrive within human-animal interactions rather than tolerating interaction. Continuously assess animals before, during and after sessions to identify factors that may impact the animals' affective and mental states and adapt environment for the animals when necessary to ensure therapeutic interactions. Provide evidenced based therapy to clients in partnership with animals at Evergreen Grove. Demonstrate the ability to connect animal-client interactions to client behaviors and/or goals. Utilize effective judgement when assessing the session’s impact on both the animal and the client during interactions. Demonstrate the ability to address unexpected animal stress and to effectively intervene to relieve stress while prioritizing safety and maintaining a calm demeanor. Qualifications: The GCC must have a bachelor’s degree in counseling or a closely related field or hold an active CADC or LADC. Must have at least one year's experience working with youth/young adults with substance misuse and mental health disorders. The GCC should be familiar with and embrace the multiple pathways to recovery philosophy, including MAT/MOUD. Preference given to candidates that have experience in Animal Assisted Services, Equine Therapy, and/or experience around livestock and other farm animals; bilingual candidates are also preferred. Candidate must have excellent oral, written, and relational skills, be able to demonstrate cultural humility, and thrive in a team setting. Must carry out all duties in compliance with HIPPAA and 42 CFR Part 2. The GCC must possess computer skills and be proficient in MS Office. The GCC must hold a valid driver’s license. Candidates with lived experience in recovery in SUD must possess at least 2 years of continuous sobriety. Supervision Given: None Supervision Received: The Green Care Clinician is supervised by the R.O.O.T.S.
