Job Title: Grant Writer FLSA Classification: Exempt Reports To: Deputy Director of Community Engagement Compensation: $65,000.00 to $80,000.00 Annually DOE + Benefits Inland Counties Legal Services (ICLS) seeks a grant writer to join our team. ICLS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization providing free legal services to people of limited means residing in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. ICLS targets services to seniors and those in the greatest social and economic need. ICLS provides legal assistance in eight general practice areas: Elder, Family Law, Consumer, Housing, Immigration, Systemic & Impact Litigation, Health Law, and Public Benefits & Education; and a Pro Bono Program, operating volunteer-enhanced client programs. Overview of Position & Responsibilities The Grant Writer will play a critical role in advancing the mission of ICLS by securing essential funding from foundations, government agencies, and corporate donors. The primary responsibility of this position is to research and identify funding opportunities, develop compelling proposals and narratives, and manage the full grant submission process. This role involves close collaboration with program attorneys and the Grants & Compliance Manager to ensure alignment with programmatic goals and compliance with reporting requirements. Key Responsibilities: Research & Identify Funding Opportunities : Conduct in-depth research on potential funding sources, including foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors. Maintain a comprehensive database of prospective funders and track upcoming grant deadlines. Proposal Writing & Development: Draft, revise, and finalize grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents that clearly communicate the organization’s mission, impact, and funding needs. Collaborate with program attorneys to create targeted proposals for specific practice areas. Ensure all proposals align with funders’ guidelines and are tailored to the specific requirements of each grant. Grant Management & Reporting: Work closely with the Grants & Compliance Manager to gather necessary programmatic and financial data for grant submissions and reports. Develop and maintain a grant schedule to ensure timely submissions and compliance with deadlines. Assist in the preparation and submission of progress and final reports to funders. Collaboration with Program Teams: Interface with program attorneys to gain a deep understanding of their work and funding needs. Ensure that programmatic information is accurately reflected in grant proposals. Grant Tracking & Compliance: Maintain a master file of all pending and submitted grants, ensuring all relevant documentation is up to date. Monitor grant deliverables and assist with compliance to ensure all funder requirements are met. Additional Duties: Stay informed of trends in nonprofit fundraising and legal aid funding landscapes. Assist with other fundraising and development tasks as needed. Desired Education, Skills, and Experience Bachelor’s degree in communications, English, public policy, or a related field. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in grant writing, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Proven track record of securing funding from foundations, government agencies, and corporate sponsors. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex program information into clear and compelling narratives. Strong research, organizational, and project management skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
