WELCOME TO YOUR CENTER! Established as a community non-profit in 1972, The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and well-being of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, transgender, nonbinary, immigrant, and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows that they are welcomed, valued, and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community, we actively recommit to being a more vibrant, bold, innovative, safe, and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sex-positive and provides advocacy and critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life, focusing on our deeply held values of equity, social justice, and client-centered, trauma-informed care. The Center currently has over 110 staff working at five facilities across San Diego County. As of 04/01/2023, the Center has relaxed its COVID-19 vaccination requirement for employment. New employees are encouraged but not required to be vaccinated. The Centre reserves the right to amend this requirement based on health concerns and/or governmental recommendations to protect the well-being of our community. If this requirement changes, employees will have 30 days to comply. POSITION SUMMARY Under the supervision of the Director of Grants, the Grant Writer's primary responsibilities include developing, editing, and writing grant proposals for foundations, corporations, and government entities to meet the financial and operational needs of the organization. This position will be part of a dynamic, highly collaborative new grant writing team at The Center. The successful candidate will have exceptional communication and organizational skills and enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES: In collaboration with the Director of Grants, research funding opportunities that align with the short-term and long-term funding needs and strategic planning goals of the agency. In collaboration with the Director of Grants and the Grant Writer, conduct the full range of activities required to write, submit, and manage grant proposals to federal, state, local, and private foundation funding sources. Submit 3-5 grants per month, depending on the size and scope of the funding opportunity Stay current with relevant statistics and best practices for service delivery Utilize centralized grants calendar and database for applications, reports, and awards or denials Prepare, compile, and coordinate the submission of all the components of grant reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and bi-annual reports and grant budgets that align with funding objectives. Ensure that all documents are submitted ahead of deadlines. Required Qualifications: Education/Experience : 2 years of experience in progressive grant writing and/or grant management responsibility in a non-profit organization ranging from $10,000 to $2,000,000 Professional Skills : Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with federal, state, regional, and local agencies, community leaders, and public stakeholders. Demonstrated success in developing corporate and private foundation grant proposals that have been awarded in excess of $100,000. Experience with financial and program management database systems, including Raiser's Edge, Apricot, Grant Hub, and similar systems. Personal Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong planning and organizational skills. Detail-oriented and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines. Self-motivated, ability to work in a team environment. Technology Skills : Proficient in MS Office Suite. Language Skills : Fluency in English. preferred QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience : 1+ years of experience Fundraising in a professional, philanthropic environment. Professional Skills : Familiarity with the San Diego funding landscape. Other Qualifications : Passion for the Center's mission and work to create a region where LGBTQ people thrive. Demonstrate competency, humility, and experience working with the LGBTQ and BIPOC communities and familiarity with issues relevant to LGBTQ and BIPOC people. Language Skills : Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Compensation : The pay range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000 and is commensurate with experience.
