About the DNR Division of Oil and Gas: The Division of Oil and Gas regulates petroleum exploration and production operations including well spacing, exploration, permitting, drilling, completion, production, and abandonment operations. The Division of Oil and Gas seeks to encourage responsible development of Indianas resources in a manner that will: prevent waste, encourage the greatest economic recovery of oil and gas, protect the correlative rights of owners, protect human health and safety, and protect the environment. Role Overview: The DNR Oil and Gas Geologist regulates the oil and gas industry in Indiana by permitting and reviewing drilling operations in accordance with applicable State and Federal laws, regulations, and policies. Activities permitted by the Division include all oil and gas:related wells, including Class II injection wells, and certain test holes as required by statute. The Geologist 1 provides the Division with an understanding of the geology, well construction, drilling history, and operating practices of the oil and gas industry. This position requires technical expertise needed to investigate and resolve complex problems through data collection from all available resources, including printed historical state documents and available digital media. The Geologist 1 is expected to communicate scientific and technical information effectively with supervisors, peers, industry personnel, and members of the public and provide technical assistance, consultation, and training in the areas of geology, environmental geology, engineering geology, hydrogeology, mapping, and petroleum geology. Salary Statement: The salary for this position traditionally starts at67,314.00but may be commensurate with education or work experience. A Day in the Life: The essential functions of this role are as follows: :Provide geological consultation utilizing technical expertise regarding engineering geology, hydrogeology, and geology.:Understand, interpret, and employ applicable State and Federal regulatory rules, guidance, and policies related to geological investigations and contaminant remediation.:Lead or assist field teams during site investigations. :Offer solutions to issues/complaints using data analysis and test data.:Facilitate the creation and editing of staff reports and correspondence to ensure consistency in application of laws and regulations.:Educate staff regarding implementation of geological policies and programs. :Review and evaluate technical guidance documents, reports, journals, and related articles.:Create internal schedules and work scopes, milestones, deliverables, and end products.:Maintain organized site files and program databases.:Assist in geological enforcement actions.:Participate in pre:hearing conferences, provide testimony as expert witness in pre:trial depositions and hearings, and testify in administrative or court hearings.:Propose revisions to existing regulations and identify new needs in agency or program operations and develop long:term str
