The ideal candidate will assist in defending clients in criminal matters, including complex criminal cases at the federal, state, and local levels. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone passionate about criminal defense and seeking to grow in a collaborative and fast-paced environment.Responsibilities:Advise clients on their legal rights and obligations, ensuring they understand the intricacies of their cases.Draft legal documents such as motions, briefs, and other filings pertinent to the case.Represent clients in pretrial hearings, and provide post-hearing advice and strategy recommendations.Handle court appearances, trials, and other legal proceedings as required.Conduct in-depth legal research, analyze case precedents, and assess the probable outcomes of cases.Interview witnesses, gather evidence, and prepare clients for depositions to support case strategies.Collaborate with colleagues on legal strategies and provide support as a team player in the office.Accrue additional evidence to strengthen clients' cases or to challenge prosecution charges.Prepare legal analyses for clients to identify potential benefits or weaknesses in their cases.Engage with expert witnesses to gather supporting testimony for the defense.Requirements:Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.Admission to the California State Bar, or eligibility to be admitted.Interest in gaining experience in criminal defense at various court levels (federal, state, local).Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.Willingness to handle a workload of active criminal defense cases.Preferred Qualifications:Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.Experience in managing complex criminal defense cases.Interpersonal and communication skills of the highest caliber.Skills:Strong understanding of criminal law and legal precedents.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time-management skills.Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.Adaptability and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced environment.Certifications Licenses:Must be a licensed attorney in good standing with the California State Bar.Additional certifications in Criminal Law or Trial Advocacy are a plus.Location:Sacramento, CABenefits:Competitive compensation package.Medical, dental, and vision insurance.Paid parking.Paid time off.Opportunities for professional development.
