Introduction to Role: Are you ready to take the lead in providing strategic direction, specialist medical education knowledge, and leadership of the CVRM Medical Education programs? As the Director of External Scientific Engagement, you will work across the BioPharmaceutical Cardiovascular, Renal and Metabolism (CVRM) organization. In return, we get to shape AstraZeneca's Medical and Commercial brand plans and disease area strategies. Accountabilities: Your role will involve working alongside the Medical affairs team to develop and execute impactful medical education strategy to increase HCP confidence in our CVRM portfolio and improve patient outcomes. You will ensure quality scientific discussion within education programs in line with CVRM medical strategy, incorporating important new clinical evidence, RWEs and guidelines pertaining to the current and future portfolio in the discussion where relevant and appropriate. You will also identify and lead strategic engagement plans with Key External Experts (KEE) and developing experts who can participate in global, regional and local medical activities outlined in the Strategy Plans developed by cross-functional commercial & medical teams. Essential Skills/Experience: - Bachelor's degree - Minimum 6 years' experience in the biopharmaceutical industry - Customer-facing or Medical Affairs experience desirable - Demonstrated track record in delivering new solutions and gaining buy in from cross functional teams - Extensive knowledge of the pharmaceutical development process, role of medical affairs and the wider teams in bringing medicines to patients - Experience in partnering and collaborating with external vendors/agencies - Good scientific Knowledge experience in CVRM diseases preferred - Open to periods of travel - Willingness to explore innovative engagement techniques and tools Desirable Skills/Experience: - MS, MD, PhD, or equivalent preferred - Advanced organisational skills and ability to work in a highly matrix environment with ability to timely manage multiple projects and manage many cross functional stakeholders - Must exhibit leadership skills, ability to perform in fast paced environments and ability to influence without authority - Ability to operate with a high degree of independent judgement and initiative - Ability to prioritise workload to ensure we drive a world class external strategy - Enthusiastic, resolute and flexible approach to work - Able to motivate and encourage others in support functions to deliver to the best of their ability - Mandatory practical, working knowledge of Medical Affairs - Demonstrated experience in developing medical strategies and plans - Demonstrated project management skills to lead cross functional teams - Proven ability to engage, influence and build effective relationships with KEEs, across functional and geographic boundaries to drive the Medical Educational strategy - Strong verbal and written communication skills in English with ability to present in front of external and internal stakeholders - Broad understanding of more than one part of the business i.e. Discovery, Clinical, Regulatory, Medical or Commercial roles. - Presentation and influencing/negotiation skills - High ethical standards When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines.
